MM....NNE. -NNE SAILMAXERS' STRIKE AT THE NAYY YARD. —Some time since the sailmakere in our navy - yard struck for an advanceof wages ; $2.50 per day, or 25 cents per hour, the same as paid outside. An offer was made to work the ten hours per day at 26 cents per hour, but the authorities refused, or did not think they had authority to light up the saitloft. Some time elapsed, and finally the question was .settled by Uncle Sam allowingthe loft to be lighted, in order that the workmen could make full time at 25 cents per hour, and thus realize $2 60 per day. The ealimakers, we understand, refuse to comply with this arrangement, and now demand $260 per -day, short or long. To this the officers of the United ' .States Government do not seem willing to submit, and the probability is; never will: The• present de. Eland now made by the salimakers is equivalent to about 33 cents per hour, being 8 cents per hour more than is given outside. The hands in the navy yard 'commence work in these short days at three.quarters .of an hour after sunrise, and stop at sundown. The actual time, therefore, employed to-day in the navy yard will be about seven hours - and - a half. For this short time the sailmaktrs demand the sum of $2 60. For the same length of time employed, the sailnia kers outside would only receive at full rates the stun of $1.87.• We are thus particular in no• tieing these few points, so that the people may un stleratand the Affair and form their own opinion, / HENDS.OME SUIT OF COLORS FOR THE 4Svtc FIENNSYLVANIA.—The citizens of Pottsville are about to pay a ~..racelul and well-deserved corn. pliment to the 4Sth P. V., in the presentation to that gallant regiment of an elegant suit of colors, comprising a beautiful standard and full set of guide flags. The former in made of heavy blue silk, with the State arms of Pennsylvania on one side, and the arms of the - United States on the reverse. both .of which are surrounded by scrolls containing the names of the following battles, in which the regi ment has been engaged : Bull Run, Chantilly, South mountain, Antietam, and Fredericksburg, with their respective dates. ..The work of the artist in these colors has been superbly executed, and the mountings, including heavy bullion fringe, ebony Stet; and silver spear, are correspondingly rich. Thewhele reflects the highest creditupon the ladies 111ra. E. R. Bohannan and Miss Bliesse—to whom the getting up of the flags was entrusted, as it also does upon Messrs. Evans & Hassall, at whose esta blishment, 418 Arch street, they were made, and where, we may state, they will remain on exhibi tion to the public during to-day. IMPEACHMENT.—The committee appoint ed by Common Council to prepare the preliminaries in regard to the impeachment of certain members of both branches, have a much more voluminous duty to perform than they generallesupposed. All the evidence that has been elicited must be taken over again by the recently, appOinted committee. After this is done, another committee must be formed to prepare charges of impeachment. When this has been done, then still another committee must be formed to state the. charges before Select Coun cil. The members of the branch thus organized as a tribunal must be sworn as a court jury. Then the trial is to proceed, which may be continued to an indefinite period. • In the meantime, the new Coun cils will come into power, and for several months will have as much as they , can attend to, in conduct. ing the usual business of thecity. After the trial and argument,Which may last several years, then a two-third vote will be required to expel a member or members, if found guilty by the Select branch. 'PROMOTION.—John Savage, a well-known printer' of Philadelphia, has been promoted to the rank of captain of Company B, Scott Legion. He entered the ranks as a private. At the battle of Get tysburg, Captain Punston was wounded and the lire lieutenant was killed. The command now de volved upon Mr. Savage, and bravely did he lead the gallant men on to a glorious victory ; thus the prin. ter-hero made an impression upon a page of his country's history that will become more indelible as time progresses. .Captain John Savage received his commission a few dela since. ' He testided as follows : I live in liedfol a street, below Eighth ; on the day,of the election there were two split tickets of-the De mocratio party in the-ward; they were - called the old and the new party ; I was a subscriber lb the new party ; this man (pointing to one of the defend ants) showed signs of hostility to me, and com menced by calling me a Republican ; about half an hour before the lamps were lig_hted he asked me how I made out:with the Republican ticket; I told him I had no such ticket, and he then went away, and mixed in the crowd • then Mr. O'Brian mixed in, and said to me that ' I had been talking enough at the_ polls during the day • with this, he caught me by the neck, and the other man struck me in the eye,' which knocked me across the side walk ; when I was down, I wan kicked in the breast, which turned into an abscess, and my arm was swelled up until it was as big as a stove pipe ; I laid at home live weeks because of the injuries I had re ceived ; I was arrested by Sergeant Neff, on that evening ; I have beenunder the doctor's hands ever ::since. • The defendants had no questions to ask. They 'were order( d to enter ball in the sum of $1,500 each, to answer at court. [Before Mr. Alderman Hutchinson. Inhumanity. Joseph Wooer is the name given by a man who was arraigned on Saturday by Sergeant Godwin, on the charge of wife-beating. It seems from the evi dence adduced that, on Friday afternoon Mrs. inNo ner paid a visit to a neighboring house, the viol. nity of the Spring Garden Waterworks. The hus band, it is alleged, proceeded to the same place, and behaved in an outrageous manner, breaking the fur niture, and then attacking his wife, whom he best in a most brutal manner. Two women who lived - in the house interfered to savethe woman from such inhuman treatment, and they came in for a few blows. The husband then seized a knife, and com menced hacking - or slashing his wife's head and face. .11er wounds are considered dangerous. The defend ant was committed, in <default of $1,500 bail, to answer. [Before Mr, Alderman McMullin. Another Victim.
