RAMSAY.—On the 2d of June, in the hospital
near Vicksburg, of a wound received in the battle
before that city on the 16th of May, £mor, fourth:
son of Mr. Joseph Ramsay, of Fogg’s Manor, Ones
ter county, Pa.
KHe was a single man, and a few years ago had set
tled in Merlon, lowa, where he was conducting a
large and lucrative business. On the second call for
volunteers he joined the 24th Regiment of lowa Vo
lunteers, and was mustered into the servfbe of the

Rually wounded in the ankle try a shell, and, from the
want of early and proper Burgioal attention, ampu
tation was delayed until the 28th of May. His sys
tem was so far prostrated that he sank iato the
lockjaw, and died on the fourth day after the opera
tion was performed.
He was a noble and brave soldier, and had distin
guished himself by many deeds of valor, for which
he was promoted from the ranks to a sergeantoy.
He was of a large, muscular frame, perhaps the
largest man of his regiment, and much beloved, by
all who knew him, for his kindness and urbanity of
manners. He bravely fought for what he advo
cated—Freedom and the Union—and thus has fallen
another sacrifice for Liberty.

of duty, and to be called the INVALID CORPS. ‘ -
As it is to be composed of VETER ANB who have become

America, brave relics from every battle-field of the war,
gathered under the fostering protection, of a grateful Go
vernment. w
It is to be NATIONAL in Its character, having no re

Its officers and men-will bo designated, as a mark of
justinction, bjr a uniform peculiar to themselves, and
their duties will be such home service as they may be
capable of performing, thus relieving many thousands
of able-bodied troops whose services are needed in the
-field.'. t ,

Dfau Stu : During the night of May 19. 1863. our Gro

store was a two-story.wood building.it burnt rapidly,
and before the fire-engines could act upon the fire, oux
whole stockof goods, Including much combustible ma

which was in the hottest part of the fire, • andjit came out
of the fire not in the least injured, except the melting of
of the name, plate and paint. The contents inside were
