which the United States,t. effeera in command gave

The Princess Rural brings a full cargo, whose value
in London.,7=hout insurance, was estimated at
$134,234) reto:he is ono or the fastest and best built
iron p pellets ever turned out from a British ship
yard. • lief value and that of her cargo to the rebels,

•
Fin.—At an early hour yesterday morn-
Sag, a fire broke out in the "tempering" house at
tached to the shot-tower of Thomas Sparks, Carpen
ter street, above Front. The building was used for
casting conical shells and buckshot. The building
was entirelyiburned out. The tin roof confined the tire
to the inside of the building, and nearly all the appa
ratua and machinery were ruined. Fortunately, the
stock of material on hand was very light. Connectad
with this building was a two-story frame carriage
house, which was destroyed, together with 150 shot
kegs, which Were atowed.ln the loft. A stable ad
joining was also slightly damaged. Next to the
stable was a two-and-a-half- story frame building,
occupied as a dwelling by Mr. Joseph Alexander,
ones of the carriers of The Press. A portion of this
building was considerably damaged, and the house
deluged with water. Most of the household goods
were removed, but in a damaged condition. At the
time the fire broke out, Mr. Alexander was attend
ing at the bedside of a dying step•daughter. It Was
hie intention to remove her immediately to his own
home, which was then enveloped in flames. The
total loss by the fire was about Itt,SOD.
CITY ITEMS.
A - PortaAn, :PIIOTOGRAPIT EMMA/3g
-Amer.—Me. E. P. Hippie's splendid Photographic
Gallery, No. MO Arch street, is literally besieged
with patrons six days in the week, and the style and
fidelity of his pictures, in all 'sizes and styles, are
•tintrersally admired.
PURR INVORTED C. H.
Mattson, dealer in tine family groceries, Arch and
"Tenth streets, has now in store a choice lot of Wines
--Port,
Sherry, Madeira, and others—of his own
• direct importation, of great age and absolute purity,
• expressly-adapted for medicinal purposes; also, a
rare article of old Brandy, which is highly rocom
• mended for the use of Invalids.
FOREIGN TRAVEL STOPPED.—Very few
pen3onsgo-abroad at present. Those who desire to
•visit Great Britain, or to "do" the Continent, pre
,fer staying at home to paying sixty per cent. pre
iniUM for foreign exchange, and they put off' their
'touring until paper goes up or gold goes down. Why
should real . patriots desire to go abroad 1 Those
• who do not wish•to go into the army might do worse
• then to stay comfortably at home, enjoy the good
things that• we are blessed with, and wear elegant
garments made at the Brown Stone Clothing Hall
• of Itoekhill & Wilson, Nos. 603 and 605 Chestnut
street, above Sixth.
WHAT IT IS TO 21E A PRINOE.—The Prince
of Wales, in his present position, presents a strong
contrast alongside of a Lancashire operative. The
income of the Duchy-of Cornwall Commences with
his ibirth, to be put to his credit. Over,sl,ooo, ooo of
the accumutation•was paid for his lately purchased
estate in Norfolk, the rents of which will be $35,000
a year. The' balance at hie banker's is $2,600.000,
and his Duchy of Cornwall brings an income of
..$156,000 a year, Refildea this, Parliament will vote
liitris6oo,ooo a year during his mother's life, and
vote $200,000 a year pin money to his bride. They
will also have 'Marlborough House, close to St.
James' Palace, as a rent free residence. We have
no princes in •this.-country, but every man and boy
can "dress .like a prince," at a very small cost, by
purchasing at Charles Stokes & Co.'s "one-price"
Clothing Store, underthe "Continental."
YELLOW CORN TS. RED.—WO see it
stated in a Western paper that yellow corn brings
in market three• or four cents more than red, It is
said also, that the•mixed yellow and white, brings
a like advance over red. We should not have sup
posed there could be intrinsically so much difference.
But we have noticed that ideas that have become
stereotyped in trade, generally have truth for a
basis. If it is so Inthis case it would be well, not
only for those who grow corn for the market, but
for those growing it for home consumption, to sub
stitute the yellow, or the mixed, yellow and white,
for the red. It is all very proper to employ the
words yellow, white, and red, when speaking of the
subject under present consideration, Applied to
the elegant garments made at the superb One-Price
Clothing 'Establishment of Granville Stokes, No.
'BO9 Chestnut street, Philadelphia, they would per
haps Appear absurd. Seriously speaking, at this es
tablishment, elegant and seasonable attire may now
be procured.

tIOUSiIffS I COLDS ! CONSUMPTION 1— AND
the Immense amount of human suffering from DISEASES
of the PULMONARY ORGANS, may all be speedily and
radically relieved by that well-known remedy, Dr.
D. JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT.
itead . the evidence:
A lIARD RACKING COUGH CURED.
JOHN VAN WORT, of Anrelias, Bliohiganorritoo
"For nearly three years I had a HARD RACKING
COUGH, and was fast on the decline. I had given my
self up to die, and my friends had no hope of my reco
very. I could scarcely walk alone, and was greatly re
duced In flesh. The best medical aid that I could And
proved of no use to me. I bought two bottles of your
EXPECTORANT. which I took according to directions,
and I can honestly say that it Mired me. lam nowwell,
tough and hearty. For two years I have not taken any
medicine, nor do I require the use of any since I took
your EXPECTORANT."
VALUABLE TESTIMONY FROM CHINA
Bei. I. 3. ROBERTS, .the well-known Chinese.3ll6-
110narY, writing from Canton, under date of Jane 2S,
US% says :
"1 lind'the Expectorant a very valuable medicine—in
deed, I cannot do without it, on account of a chronic
Breast Complaint, °which has troubled me more or less
fel several years past, and which originated from July
preaching too loud and long in the open air. Tho
PECTORANT.aIwaye eases the pain and quiets the symp
toms, and, were. it not for the requirements of my voca
tion, I believe would ere this have effected a permanent
cure."
BEST COUGH MEDICINE BEFORE THE:PUBLIC.'
. REV. B. F. 'REDLES, Pastor of the 'First Baptist
Church, Camden, N. writes:
"A few weeks since, while suffering from a vetTse
vere cold, I became so hoarse that it was with great difli n
sully I could speak so as to be understood. While in
this condition your EXPECTORANT not only gave me
immediate relief,.but in three or four days completely
cured my cold, and removed my hoarsen.ws. I there
fore take pleasure in recommending the Expectorant as
being, in my.judgment, the beat Cough Medicine before
the public."
WHOOPING. COUGH• ENTIRELY OVERCOME.
Mr. W. C. FISHER, of Weston Spalding, Lincoln
shire, England, writes;
``A little nephew of mine, five years old, was, a few.
months since, suffering from the WHOOPING COUGH,
and I never saw a more distressing case. I immediately
gave him JAYNE'S EXPECTORANT, according to di
rection, and very soon began to see an improvement.
The cough became easier; and expectoration much freer,
in a few days, and in two weeks the malady was so en
tirely overcome chat it required no further attention."
A SAYE AND VALUABLE REMEDY
-'Rev. RU.FIIS BAIKIOCK, D. D., formerly President of
Watery ille College' Maine, writes ;
'"
for. morn than a dozen years I have recommended
Dr. D. JAYNE'S FAMILY 3IEDICINES; and especially
the EXPECTORANT. I know that these medicines are
highly esteemed, and frequently prescribed by.some of
the most respectable of the regular practitioners of mein
cine ; and' I do not hesitate to commend them as a. valu
able addition to our motel itz medico, and a safe as well
as eminently beneficial remedy for the diseased.
IN TRUE DAYS MY COUCH WAS (MUD
Mr•. C. T. POOLER, Superintendent of the Akron
Echo°ln, Akron, Ohio, writes:

SPITTING OF BLOOD, WITH HECTIC FEVER
Rev. A. WIRER°, writing from Witepien. Ranovor,
SAYS:
" Shortly before Christmas last I gave two bottles of
your EXPECTORANT to a lnan who was troubled with
a very obstinate Cough, accompanied by Spitting of
Blood ilatd 'Hectic Fever; from the combined effects of
which be was becoming rapidly reduced. Ho had, in
compliance with the advice of a physician in his neigh
borhood, tried various medicines, without relief, and
-was not inclined to look with any favor on the Expecto
'rant- inrever!_having persuaded him to take the two
bottles home with him; I was much pleased to hear, of-.
ter the lapre of a week or ten days, that my friend had
entirely recovered, and I have since received a visit
from him, during which he spoke emphatically in praise
of the Expectorant, and returns his thanks for my exer
tions in causing him to give it a trial."

some EXPECTORANT. Re at first Waged, saying he

everything without the leaSt benefit, and he had now
given up doctoring as useless. Ilia wife, however, per
