ARRIVAL OF TICE PRINCESS ROYAL The Princess Royal, a vezael recently captur while en deavoring to run the blockade off arieston, ar rived at the navy yard yesterd afternoon. In another column will be foung,et 'll interesting news, which the United States,t. effeera in command gave tie respecting the reenwirnaval tight at Charleston. The Princess Rural brings a full cargo, whose value in London.,7=hout insurance, was estimated at $134,234) reto:he is ono or the fastest and best built iron p pellets ever turned out from a British ship yard. • lief value and that of her cargo to the rebels, had .e succeeded in getting into Charleston harbor, wo !d have been millions of dollars. Though caught e ••avoring to get Into Charleston harbor, she was el ed for Vancouver's Island. • Fin.—At an early hour yesterday morn- Sag, a fire broke out in the "tempering" house at tached to the shot-tower of Thomas Sparks, Carpen ter street, above Front. The building was used for casting conical shells and buckshot. The building was entirelyiburned out. The tin roof confined the tire to the inside of the building, and nearly all the appa ratua and machinery were ruined. Fortunately, the stock of material on hand was very light. Connectad with this building was a two-story frame carriage house, which was destroyed, together with 150 shot kegs, which Were atowed.ln the loft. A stable ad joining was also slightly damaged. Next to the stable was a two-and-a-half- story frame building, occupied as a dwelling by Mr. Joseph Alexander, ones of the carriers of The Press. A portion of this building was considerably damaged, and the house deluged with water. Most of the household goods were removed, but in a damaged condition. At the time the fire broke out, Mr. Alexander was attend ing at the bedside of a dying step•daughter. It Was hie intention to remove her immediately to his own home, which was then enveloped in flames. The total loss by the fire was about Itt,SOD. CITY ITEMS. A - PortaAn, :PIIOTOGRAPIT EMMA/3g -Amer.—Me. E. P. Hippie's splendid Photographic Gallery, No. MO Arch street, is literally besieged with patrons six days in the week, and the style and fidelity of his pictures, in all 'sizes and styles, are •tintrersally admired. PURR INVORTED C. H. Mattson, dealer in tine family groceries, Arch and "Tenth streets, has now in store a choice lot of Wines --Port, Sherry, Madeira, and others—of his own • direct importation, of great age and absolute purity, • expressly-adapted for medicinal purposes; also, a rare article of old Brandy, which is highly rocom • mended for the use of Invalids. FOREIGN TRAVEL STOPPED.—Very few pen3onsgo-abroad at present. Those who desire to •visit Great Britain, or to "do" the Continent, pre ,fer staying at home to paying sixty per cent. pre iniUM for foreign exchange, and they put off' their 'touring until paper goes up or gold goes down. Why should real . patriots desire to go abroad 1 Those • who do not wish•to go into the army might do worse • then to stay comfortably at home, enjoy the good things that• we are blessed with, and wear elegant garments made at the Brown Stone Clothing Hall • of Itoekhill & Wilson, Nos. 603 and 605 Chestnut street, above Sixth. WHAT IT IS TO 21E A PRINOE.—The Prince of Wales, in his present position, presents a strong contrast alongside of a Lancashire operative. The income of the Duchy-of Cornwall Commences with his ibirth, to be put to his credit. Over,sl,ooo, ooo of the accumutation•was paid for his lately purchased estate in Norfolk, the rents of which will be $35,000 a year. The' balance at hie banker's is $2,600.000, and his Duchy of Cornwall brings an income of ..$156,000 a year, Refildea this, Parliament will vote liitris6oo,ooo a year during his mother's life, and vote $200,000 a year pin money to his bride. They will also have 'Marlborough House, close to St. James' Palace, as a rent free residence. We have no princes in •this.-country, but every man and boy can "dress .like a prince," at a very small cost, by purchasing at Charles Stokes & Co.'s "one-price" Clothing Store, underthe "Continental." YELLOW CORN TS. RED.—WO see it stated in a Western paper that yellow corn brings in market three• or four cents more than red, It is said also, that the•mixed yellow and white, brings a like advance over red. We should not have sup posed there could be intrinsically so much difference. But we have noticed that ideas that have become stereotyped in trade, generally have truth for a basis. If it is so Inthis case it would be well, not only for those who grow corn for the market, but for those growing it for home consumption, to sub stitute the yellow, or the mixed, yellow and white, for the red. It is all very proper to employ the words yellow, white, and red, when speaking of the subject under present consideration, Applied to the elegant garments made at the superb One-Price Clothing 'Establishment of Granville Stokes, No. 'BO9 Chestnut street, Philadelphia, they would per haps Appear absurd. Seriously speaking, at this es tablishment, elegant and seasonable attire may now be procured. ARRIVALS AT THE HOTELS, 1.17 TO 12 &moor LAST mialam Conttnenteil—Ninth D ltolt, New York Doom°ll.
