Matilda Jane, a maiden rare, Was yonng and gay and rich and fair, And vtrtuouß, too, and wise was she, And beans she had—just twenty-three. Like furnaces, they all were sighing, And some with hope deferred were dying; And some of self-destruction thought, And bed cords stole or pistols bought. Some with fine musto hoped to win her, And some delicious rhymes did spin her, Some dancing tried—but all in vain; For nothing moved Matilda Jane. She sacked the poets, fiddlers, friskers, Nice obaps with most enchanting whi.kers, Goatees and all the other graces ' That make of ladles’ heartsgone oases.” Ali these Matilda Jane dismissed, And kept her scarlet lip nnkissed; Bnt Samuel Hopkins took her oye, Now, can you tell the reason why '! No poet, fiddler, dancer, he, Nor had he whiskers or goatee— A small investment, well applied, For Hopkins gained a peerless bride; Frcm Tower Hall did he obtain A suit that won Matilda Jane. Card to the Public.—The under signed, sole agents In Philadelphia of Messrs. STE IN WAY & SONS, Piano manu’acturers, of New York, warn the public that, for s,me time past, systematic efforts have been made by various parties to sell very inferior pianos, by misrepresentations calculated to de ceive, to the great Injory of Messrs. Steinway & Sons, as well as the publio. One plan resorted to is to place upon pianos a name to like that of Steinway Sc Sons, that those unaccustomed to the name of that firm may be readily deceived. Another plan is to represent that a certain manufacturer, was recently a foreman for Messrs. Stein way A Sons, which is not the case. Vartans methods are adopted by which these dec°ptlons are successfully carried on. Pianos are sold at private rooms, where but a single one Is fonnd at a time, and the attention of the public is attracted by an advertisement announcing a great sacrifice. This course allows great latitude In deception Another course pursued is to obtain one of Steinway & Bona’ Pianos and Injure It, and then compare it with thoße of other makers in good condition. AH these effortß are but additional proofs of the superiority of Messrs, Steinway & Sons’ Pianos, whioh have recently taken tbo first prise mectod at the great Internationa! Exhibition, in London, in this year; over 289 Pianos were entered, from all parts of lhe world BLABIUS BROTHERS, No. 1006 CHESTNUT Street, Philadelphia, Only authorized Agents or Steinway A Sons for Phila delphia and vicinity. , It INIMITABLE PIANO FORTES, are rapidly taking precedence of all others for their pow er, evenness of touch, and pure duality of tone. The object of the following certificates istoshowthat cures at 1220 WALNUT Street are permanent and re liebte. . The first cure was . performed nearly three years ago, ihe Btcond was performed nearly two years ago, the third shout one year, and hundreds more of like cases might tie shewn. BEAD THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY. About twelve months ago I had a severe attack of Diabetes, attended with other difficulties too numerous to mention. Sly desire for drink was . constant, and although I dratik gallons per day, my thirst was never allayedl wbb only able to sleep at short intervals, which seemed like a trance. The mucous sorfaoe of my mouth apd throat bed. become so parched and feverish, that I w»b misery. I was also suffering from all ihe horrors of Dyspepsia, loss of appetite. Nan sat, and frequeDt and severe attacks of vomiting; and' to prostrated .was thafcXwas scarcely able to move about. 1 hadavaikd myßelf of the science and skill of distinguished medical men, both of the Allo pathic and Honsceopathic school, and exhausted their catalogue of remedies, but found only temporary relief In this condition, when every ray of hops seemed paralyzed, I beard of the discovery of Professor Bolle3 in Ihe use of Electricity, and the wonders he was per forming in curing disease, and placed myself under his treatment; and, to the astonishment of myself and friends, in two operations my Diabetes was controlled, and other difficulties soon disappeared ; my appetite has returned, Bleep undisturbed, and. in fact, I feel like one made anew. . 1 vronld further state Ibat I have seen other remark able cures performed by Prof. Bolles, and would advise tbe diseased to call at 1220 Walnut street, and here stored to health ; I shall be glad to give any one infor mation caliiog on mo. THOMAS HABBOP, • ' Bose Mill, West Philadelphia. Philadelphia, May Ist, 1860. Bead the following from a preacher of the Methodist Episcopal Church, No. 1633 Helmuth street, Philadel phia: - V In attempting a definition of my disease, lean-only give some of tbe many symptoms which, taken altogether, were tbe most horrid; and even medioal men did not know my disease from pathological symptoms. How ever, Professor C. H. Bolles; by whom I was cared, located my disease in the pelvic viscera, in five minutes alter I entered hi. office, and offered to warrant a perfect cure in eight applications. And I frankly admit that in eight applications of Electricity, administered by Pro fessor Bolles, 1220 Walnut street, Philadelphia, I am perfectly cored ; and to me this is most astonishing, for I bed exhausted me catalogue of old-school remedies, and grew weree all the time. I had long believed that in Electricity resided a potent agent for the cure of diseaee, if a right application could be made; and now I can comprehend, from its power ful effects on me, for a epttdy cure, although noshocks were given. All was pleasant, and accomplished as if by megic. I will give most of my symptoms, for the benefit of suffering humanity. I had dyspepsia, had marasmus, or wasting of the tissues of tbe .whole body; at times a difficulty of breathing, some palpttation of the heart, much bronchitis, trembling of the limbs after exercise, aversion to business and company; at times gloomy, ina bility. to collect my thoughts vigorously on any snbjact, a less of mimory, pain in various parts of the body; suf fered much irem lumbago, deranged secretions of the kidneys end other glands of the at stem, constantdrag ging pains in the lumbar region, and severe nervomr die ziness. ' - I believe it is my duty, as a lover of humanity, to re eon mend this discovery of Professor BOLLE3 to the afflicted ef all classes. There seems lo be no guess work, no confusion, no matter of doubt in his treatment. He proceeds en fixed principles, and according to fixed laws, which seem to me infallible and harmonious He war rants, by special contract, the most obstinate chronic; and acute cases, and charges nothing, if he fails. lad visa all ol the diseased to try his treatment.
