CITY ITEMS. The Season and its Wants The seasonable depression In the mercury within the last few days, has given a decided impetus to trade, and in no department more than that of Stores. The various establishments in this line, if we may judge from what we saw at one of them—the celebrated house of Mr -John S. Clark, No. 1508 Market street—were thronged with butere ibrougbout yesterday. There is, however, a special reason for the rush of customers at Mr. Clark's warerooms. The great Stoves which be has lately in troduced to the public, already by us referred to, are sounding his name wherever stoves are used. His Cook •ftrfe, We find, is giving the moat entire satisfaction to ail who try it, and to rapidly are the people beginning to appreciate its merits as a great economizer of fuel, that the demand for them is daily increasing. It is a re markable tact, that in the hundreds of instances in which they have been used used there has not yet been a single somplaint made against tbem. Thin is tile more strange, as vet y stove sold at Mr. Clark's establishmontis warrant ed to be as represented or the money to be refunded to the purchaser. This is the Cook Stove, it will be re membered, which has the distinction of burning but one Ton of Mil is s;.d 0/11113 The capac,ti o f th e s t ove i s quite equal to the wants of the largest family. Mr. Clark's Splendid new Parlor and Office Stove, with 9SiS new Improved Crate, requiring no raking, has also attained an enormous sale. In fact, the demand for this admirable stove alone has become so important, that Mr. Clark has been obliged to emt.W au extra number of Lands in the manufacture of them in order to meet the .2)yesFure which has literally been created to obtain them. One reason for this is, that whatever Mr. Clark nity, with regard to hi-stoves the public may rely upon- Wo may Mats, in conclusion. that the stock of this house is so extensive and well got up, that for anything in the stove hue, those wishing to purchase cannot pos sibly go molds in it. NO. 1008 Market street is certainly ta great Stove Emporium. 'AMC or A CORNERsfITONE, - - - qho *tone of the new Millet. for St. Pant's Church, Chestnut Bill, will he laid by the Bight Rey. Priaanect.ttrA, October 24, 18111 There wa little done at the Stock Board to-day, and grices.exhibited the tendency to a decline noted yester day. In the money market there is rather an indisposition to operate, excepting in eall loans, or loans on very short time, owing to Ow expectation, generally entertained, that a decleive intl, wilt soon be had on the Potomac. The New York Post of this evening says: Stocks are better to-day, but nut active. Operators still evince much caution, amino large transactions have taken place this n eek.
