AND COMBINA- TION BANK LOCKS, VAULT DOORS, &c. The time has arrived when Bankers, Merchants, and business men begin to feel not only the importance but the necessity of having a thoroughly fire and burster prodle. That t • sheet-iron or common safe has been much Impreve its afire-Proof/ince its first introduction, and that it will preserve the written matter, tinder favors able °keret:mom Is admitted ; but that it still hoe so • none gie edit must be conceded. Its liabi li ty to be crushed y the faller walls, timbers. em., or by its own fall; Its inability to prevent the oonstant evaporation of the moisture of the filling, as it is scarcely possible to make or keep the Taper chamber water-tight in so frail a structure •, also, its entire inability to retain the steam or vapor during the fire. .its rapid deterioration br at and otherwise. and its entire insecurity against burgla ry, will hardly be denied. It is claimed that all these are remedied in the above wrought and chtiled• iron safe and look. and the object of this article is. not only to show tide fact, but the why and the wherefore. To do this understandingly, a short minium of the structure will be first presented. of this as well as of the sheet-iron safe, premising that the two principles com prise all the popular, safes now in use.
