RECENT VIEWS OF MT. VERNON,
The publishers feel impressed with is conmotiert that
a time has come which demands a more thorough and
serious examination of the principles and trs this eon
tamed in this great State Paper ; and that it should be
more generally diffused among the people at large. To
this end they have airmen to give the ''Address" a form
and garb in some measure worthy its importance, and
calculated, they trust. to popularize and give it perma
nence.
The "Address" is in quarto form, printed in WWII,
on superior plate paper. rho publisher cannot hut hope
that with the attractive externals of illuminated typo
graphy, and artuitie embellishment, it may be com

These steamers, built expreetly for (forament ser
vice, with double engine., under diet, every attention
has been taken in the construction of the hull and ma
chinery to insure safety and speed. The ships have five
water-tight eompartments enclosing the engine., so
that in the event of collision or stranding, the water
could not teach them . and the pumps being free to work,
the safety of the vessel and paezengers would be se
cured. Recent experience has demonstrated the shoo
lute necessity of thin mode ofconstruction.
