"The Virgin Queen," and Will eantinue popu lar, so long as she lives—but, the moment after she dies, "loyalty" will be eloquent, load, and diffuse upon the virtues of her son. So ebbs and flows the tide. So, the . Oanadians would exult in the visit, - however brief, of their reigning Sovereign: , The question is not so much, will she come, as can she *come 7 Now, when, steam and electricity have almost annihilated distance and Limo—when a - first-class steamer can make the voyage from Liverpool to Halifax in some seven or eight days—when a communi cation can be fished across the Atlantic a minute, the more material obstacles to a royal visit aro conquered, if not almost wholly re. moved, and there appears nothing strange in the idea of the Queen of-• England devoting six weeks of her autumn leisure, to a trans_ Atlantictrip, during which she can judge, with her own mind, of the condition of the vast territory known, at present, as British North America, and of also visiting some of the more remarkable and accessible • places of natural and historic interest in the United States. •PHILADELPLTI4 But for the Atlantic Telegraph, it would be almost impossible for Queen Vicronre to re main for a month or six weeks out of her own dominions in Europe. AC;tnally easier, we believe, to do this from Quebec, Toronto, or Montreal, than from Balmdral, which is some twenty miles from the nearest telegraph station in Scot land.' If Queen irrwroara ever does visit this Continent, that event will be' greatly facili tated by' .the 'Atlantic Telegraph, which will enable her Ministers to keep, her constantly and folly ci posted up" in everything of which it pay,bci desirable to make her cegnizant. In her Peeullar position' she' hes not abused the powers entrusted to her. • The only blot, now almost forgotten, was her weakness in permitting the persecution to which the late LOY FLOI{A HASTINGS was the victim. The excuse is that she was very young at the' time, (it was a year before her marriage,) and that she was misled by evil advisers. In fact, nobody:seemed anions to'bo seen near the pre mises; And the meeting war made up of boys, who came to see fun, and comers and goers, who kept very shady, arid, when men, were "only passing by accident." A few of the prominent friends of the groat diner wore, of conies, on the ground, applauding loudly. Among those present, we noticed the two sons of the M. I!.'—the coal agent —the prothonotary and son, and a few lesser lights; but nobody seemed inclined to be seen. The speech delivered was somewhat diseursive, and a little husky. lam sorry to say it was in: terrupted by inquiries front the audience, of not a very pertinent character, and brief but pithy dialogues occurred between the Blinker and hearers, which had reference to the price of lager and whiskey, naturalisation papers, and other topics equally irrelevant. :However, the Mende of Mr Jones feel encouraged that one has boon found to take ukthegattntlet for him. FORNEY • The Democracy of Minne sota aro watching with anxious eye tho unnatural and unholy warfare now being waged in Illinois against Senator Douglas. They regard this eon test with An interest as intense as though our own young State was the battle-fleid, and the result was to determine the weal or Woe of the Govern ment for years to come. The speeoltes of Judge Douglas at Chicago Springfield, ,Bloomington, and other planes, aro read with an avidity which manifests tho feeling of the Minnesota Democracy. They aro eridereed . by our people, and applauded with the greatest enthusicam. And even Republicans join their ac knowledgments of the incontrovertible positions assumed by the great author and expounder of that cardinal principle of DemoOraoy- , -Fortman sovErtarourr. The latest outrage of the Administration upon Mr. Douglas—the removal of Mr.' Brooks from the Quincy poet-office—bee excited the indignation, and brought down upon the President the exeuril time of all genuine Demoarata We, of Min nesota, had regarded the appointment of Mr. Brooks as the olive branch held out by the Administration to tho Democrats of the North west, (for we-all adher:e to the Cincinnati plat form, the Federal oQico•/wlders alone ignoring it.) Mr. I)rooks' sympathy with Judge Dangles was well understood at Washington previous to his appointment. Ho was known to be immova ble and incorruptible in his devotion to popular sovereignty; the President fully understood his views, and the patrenage•hougbt presses accepted the appointment as the first Application of balm to the bruised body of .the Demooratio party, Under these circumstances the removal of Mr. Brooke, six abort weeks after his appointment, is here considered a piece of political vandalism. It has operted . up the old wounds which had been almost entirely healed, and the respect and con fidence of the Minnesota Demooraoy in Mr. Bu chanan, whioh had begun to grow and strengthen under the supposition that his unnatural persecu tion of "teammate had ceased, have departed. No Douglas man now feels safe in his place, if that pleas ho under the control, or within the gift, of the present Administration. . Thoro is one fact in reference to our party in this Kato which is palpable to all :. there is not a man, nor a clique, nor a combination of leaders In tho party, able to shake it from its faith In Doug fast or to alienate it in its devotion to the great principle he Initiated into American polities..
