It Is one of the most remarkable faots of this remarkable age, not that so many persons are the victims of dyspepsia or in digestion, but its Willing victims. Now, we would not be understood to say that any one regards dyspepsia with ravor. or leets disposed to rank it among the luxuries of life. Far from it. Those who have ex perienced Its torments would scout such an idea. All dread it, and would gladly dis. pense with Ub unpleasant familiarities. Mark Tapley, who Was jolly under all the trying circUmstanoes in which he was placed, never had an attack of dyspepsia, or his jolity would have speedily forsaken him. Of all the multifarious diseases to which the human system Is liable, there is perhaps no one so generally prevalent as dyspepsia. There are dine ises more acute and painful, and which more frequently prove fatal, but none the effects of which are so depressing to the mind and so positively distressing to the body. If thero is a wretched being in the world it is . A CONFIRMED DYSrEPTiC. We have said that dyspepsia is perhaps the most universal of human diseases. This is imphatically the oaso in the United States. Whether this general prevalence is due to the character of the food the mcHiod of its preparation, or the hasty manner in which it is usually swallowed, is not our provinoe to explain. The great fnct with which we are called to deal s this: DYSPEPSIA PREVAILS almost uuiveisally. Nearly every other person you meet is a victim, an apparently willing one: were this not the case, why so many sufferers, when a certain, speedy and safe remedy in within tho easy reach of all who will avail themselves of it? But says a dys peptic: What is this remedy? to which we reply: This great nllcvutdf of human sutlcring is almost as widely known as the English language. It has nllayeJ the agonies of thousands!, and is to-day carry comfort and encouragement to thousands of others. This acknowledged panaoea is noue other than Dr. HOOFLANDS GERMAN BITTERS Would you know more of tho merits of this wonderful prepaiation than can be learned from the experience of others? Try it yourself, and when It has failed to fulfil the assurance of its efficacy given by the proprietor, then abandon faith in it. LET IT BE REnEMliEKED, first of all. that HOOFLASD S GERMAN BITTERS is -j iruiu beverage. Thej are composed wholly of the pure juice or vital principle of roots. This is not a mere assertion. Tho extracts from which they nre compounded arc prepared by one of the ablest of German chemists. Their effects can be beneficial only in all casej of the billiary kystcm. HootUnd's German Bitters stand without au equal, actirg promptly ,and vigorously upon the liver; they remove its torpidity anl cause health ful secretion of bile thereby supplying the stomach with tho most indispensable elements of sound digestion in proper pro portions. They purify the blood, cleansing the vital fluid of all hurtful impurities and su plnnTing them with the elements of genuine healilitulucss. Now, there are certain classes ot per sons to whom extreme Kilters are not only unpalatable, but who tind it impossible to take them without positive discomfort. For such Dr. HOOKLAND'H GERMAN TONIC has been specially prepared. It is intended for use where a slight alcoholic stimulant is require! in connection witu tue well known Tonic properties of the pure Ger man Bilters. . HOOFLAND'S TONIC nets with almost marvelous effect. It not only stimulates the flagging and wa.-Uing energies, hut invigorates and permanently strengthens its action upon the Liver and Stomach thorough, perhaps less prompt than the Hitters, when tne same quantitj i.i taken is none t lie less certain Indig.'Siiun, I'.illiousness, Physical or Ner vous prostration, yield readily to its po tent influence. It gives the invalid a new and stronger hold upon life, icninves de pression of spirit, and inspire cheerful Bess. But Dr. lloolland's benefactions to the human race are not confined to his celebrated GERMAN' UITTEIIS. or his invaluable Tonic. He has prepared an other medicino. which is rapidly winning its way to popular favor because of its in trinsic mctits. This i HOOFLANU'S POD01MIVLI.1N PILLS, a perfect substi tute for mercury without uny of mercury's evil qualities. These wonderful Pills, which are Intend ed to act upon the Liver, are mainly coin posed of Pudophyllin, or the vital princi ple of the mandrake root. It is the medi cinal virtues of this health-giving plant iu a perfectly pure aud highly concoutrated form. Tho Podophyllin acts directly on the Liver, stimulating its functiiiis and causing it to m.-.ke its billiary secretions in regular and proper quantities. The inju rious results which invariably follow .tho use of mercury is entirely avoided by their use. But it is not upon tho Liver only that their powers aro exerted. The extract of Mandrake contained in them is skillfully combined with four other ex tracts, one of which acts upon the stomach, one upon the upper bowels, one upon the lower bowels, and prevents any griping effect, thus producing a pill that influences the ent;re digestive and alimeu'ary system, in an equal and harmonious maimer, and its action entirely :reo from nausea, vomit ing or griping pains ooinmon to all other purgatives. Possessing these much desirable niialities the Podophyllin becomes invaluable as a FAMILY MEDICISE. No household should be without them. They are perfectly safe, require but two for an ordinary doso, are prompt and effi cient in action, and when Used in connec tion with Dr. Iloofland s German Bitters, or Tonio, may be regarded as certain spe cifics in all cases of Liver Complaint, Dys pepsia, or any of the disorders to which the system is ordidarly subject. The PODOPHYLLIN PILLS act upon the stomach and bwels, carrying off improper obstructions, while the Bitters or Tonio purify the blood, strengthen and invigorate the fnme, give tone and appe tite to the stomach, and thus build up tbe invalid anew. Dr. Hoofland, having provided internal remedies for disease, has given the world one mainly for external application, in the wonderful preparation known Vis Da. HOOFLAND'S GREEK OIL, This Oil is a sovereign remedy for pains and aches of all kinds. Rheumatism, Neuralgia, Toothache, Chilblains, Sprains, Burns, Pain in the Back and Loins, Ringworms, etc., etc, all yield to its external application. Taken internally, it is a cure for Heart burns, Kidney Diseases, Sick Headaches, Colio, Dysentery, Cholera Morbus, Cramps, Pains in the Stomach, Colds, Asthma, eto. It hiut "wxvhw81 the te9t of w''' years, with a con stantly growing rcp Utntinn. bused nn its intrinsic virtues, and sustained by its re markable cures. So mild as to be safe And beneficial to children, nnd yet so searching as to effectually pufge out the great cor ruptions of the blood, such ns the scrofulous and syphilitic contamination. Impurities, or diseases that htive lurked In the system for years, soon yield to this powerful anti dote, and disappear. Hence its wonderful cures, many of which are publicly known, of Scrol'lilil, and all scrofulous diseases. Ulcers, Kruptlons, and eruptive dis orders ot tne skin, rumors, Jfiotciies, Uoils, Pimples, Pustules, Sores, St. Anthony's Fire, Hose or Erysipe las, Tetter, Salt Itlieum, Scald Head, Itingworm, and internal Ul cerations of the Uterus, Stomach, and Liver. It also cures other com plaints, to which it would not seem especi ally adapted, such as Dropsy, Dyspep sia, Fits, Neuralgia, Heart Disease, Female Weakness, Debility, and Leucorrlioea, when they are manifesta tions of the scrofulous poisons. It is an excellent restorer of health and strength in the Spring. By renewing the appetite and vigor of the digestive organs, it dissipates the depression and listless lan guor of the season. Even where no disorder appears, people feel bettor, and live longer, for cleansing the blood. The system moves on with renewed vigor and a new lease of life. PREPARED B T Dr. J. C.
