TUE TEiiIiESSEE ELEcrioN.- 7 -The result of
this election has been a most signal victory
for the Union Republican party: After a
fair contest Brownlow has been elected Gov
ernor by the largest majority ever given to'
candidate irr that State, while thewho'e loyal
delegation to Congress has ,been elected to
Congress by signal majorities. This election_
is the more important as, it proves that in fu
ture elections throughout the South the freed
men will, as a mass, vote Witli the.party that.
secured them liberty and-then enfranchised
them. , The rebels and copperheads at the'
late Tennessee election endeavored to create
disturbances, for the purpose.- of bringing
odium. upon.the colored people, but they' Big
naly failed: Everything paned : oft quietly.
