No trouble nor expense seems to have been spared to prepare the Coal mined in-thebest possible manner, while at the same time the arrangements are - uch that very`few men are required'to handle the Coal. As the Coal corms out of the gangways in long trains, it Is dropped into the foot of the plane,.one car at a time, by gravity. It is then hoisted by Hartz's patent dumper, which seizes the car, lifts and dumps it, and retinas it to its piece without being touched by hand. - Inside - the hreaker the facilities for dividing, and clean ing, the C0a1,., are very complete. There is plenty of room and light everywhere - in the building. - After passing through' the rollers and screens the Coal runs out enlarge wide tables; slightly, inclined,. over the pocketa or bins, around_ which can be seen on any busy day, large numbers of.boys, known as - "slate_ pickers.': Ode sits in the centre of each ble to spread the Coal before the others, Who finger every piece,_ separate the slate, and pass the Coal downinto the proper bins.: The 'presiding genius of the juvenile, assembly starida by much l ike'an oldrfashioped - schoolr master with rod in hind, to'keep'ths boys at.' Thli bevel but dent plan was perfected by- the firm, the Members of which know exactly what is wanted in the market and they have succeed= ed admirably in affording satisfaction totheir Customers: While they haie been doing this their facilities are such that very little extra expense is incurred; and, they are enabled to' ship :a largeamount of the best.Coai, On, a recent visit to 'this Colliery we found , . . them "potting through" about five hundred tO4 per day, and all working so smobthly and quietly, that one would hardly suppose they were: `,`ltalf trying.". . = Messrs. The ex- Plosive force of the powder was tested hi merous blasts 'sand tamplirt was Used, and the charges were fired by electrici ty and common fuse. The chszge and depth of the drill-hole' in each cue, as we noted it the time, were as follows: . - • First bole, 2. feet, 7 inches deep, 14 inches charge of powder. Second hole, -Et feet, 10 inches deep, 10 Third hide; 2 - feet, 8 inches deep, G inches Fourth hole, 2 feet, It inches deep, 9 inches charge. - • Fifth hole, - 2 feet, 9 inches deep, 5 inches ch The eXplosive power of these charges, was tnily surprising: Huge bouhlers containing many nine yards of conglomerate rock, were split . and rot atemder. -The relative .quali tity of the new compound .:used- was only one-half of that required of the COMMOII Wl*. end : with _.this • proportion explosive power was obtalniel fully equal to that of a fall charge of the oonunon bleating powder.
