Bishop Potter was a nal iye of Duchess county, N. Y,,; graduated at Union College; became a tutor in the College in 1819, and was elected prrifeasor ofbatural philosophy and mathematics in 1821. He was ordained in the same year. and invited to a rectorship in Boston in 2826. In 1884 he was made Vice- President of Union College;.:was chosen Bishop . ' of penusllvania in. 1845. Bishop Potter has contributed many works to the literature of the' country. Among them the "Principles of Science applied to the Do mestic and Mechanic Arts," "Politibal Eecon; omy, its Otjects.
