For about ticertiy years I had been suffering from Dysc pcpsia. Every year the symptoms became worse, nor could I obtain perinanent relief from any course of medical treatment whatever. About : fourteen years since, in con sequence of bequest% exposure to the weather, in the dis charge of my pastoral duties, I became subject to a severe Chronic 'rheumatism, which for year after year, caused me in•lescril•atile anguish. Farther , : in the winter of '45 and 'l6. in couserfitence cif preaching a great deal in my own and either churches in this region, I was attacked by the Bronchitis, which soon became so severe as 4., regnire art immeniare suspension of my pastoral labors surs•in eras noir thoroughly jrrostrated. irl , l as my Bronchitis - became worse, so also did my Dys isep,to Find Ithetunstio atlection—thus evincin; that these disorders were connected with each other ti rough the medium of the Nervous System. CURE Op TIMELY Suoozsrroxs.—There are a' ;I L . riety of plants that. demand early attention. Your beds of asparagus should be attended to; and forked over as soon as the State , of the soil will admit, and the manure applied the previous autumn, thoroughly incorpor. ,ated.with the surface earth.' for, as Plus beds, no stimulant that can' be appli ,is more valuable than salt. , Asparagus is a saline, aquatic plant ; and hence, the highly , salutary and invigorating effects it operates when applied to it as a• manure. Beds which have weeds, may he easily and corn. pletely cleansed, by pouring over them a strong solution of salt in•water, and repeat ing the operation till the weeds are destroyed. Cucumbers - and Mclons..—The seeds of these valuable vegetables should not be plant ed too early,.as by so doing, the young plants, • which an unusual degree of/vernal•warmth, may develope prematurely, and causetheir exposure to subsequent coldand-frosi. Fail- ures, in consequence of, too early planting, are not unfrequently attributed to bad of im peded seed, and the salesman is consequent ly charged with deception* ,or dishonesty,- when the legitimate cause of the non-appear. ance of the plants is cliargeal l / de to the planter.- When the soil is moist and cold,or when the: state of the ,' atmosphere is not favorable to. healthy vegetation, the planting of all seeds & a tender or fragile natufe,' , had• better bo: deferred till a favorable change occurs._ Ea s T Plants should.barted in' ot beds - , • tat when attempted - for if is rarCly the z'ase to be grown without. this precautionary measure, in the open ground, it realizes Atte expectation of the cultivator. The egg plant may properly be contemplated as a desirable and valuable production, and by the exercise of proper care and attention; it rarely. fails of success. It requires, for its successful de velopment and perfection, a soil warm, rich and thoroughly prepared by ploughing. It should also be kept perfectly free from the in festation of weeds, and all other productions calculated to restrict or impede its growth. • • Locust Secs I. —rox: timber as well as orna ment, the locust, asa tree, possesses a high value. Its appearance is - elegant, and the wood strong, compact and durable. The in durated nature of, the envelope in which na ture encloses the seed, renders it necepaiy to prepare it for germination by prevtpus immersion in scalding water, and : allowing I it to remain - submerged for twenty-four hours, before sowing. , If the seed be More, th4n one year old, it: may, with safety, reAn4in from thirty-six toforty-eight hours. Parsnips, and Parsnip Seed.—The parsnip is now regarded as one-of our most valuable vegetables for field culture. Formerly, it was rarely grown in this country, except in gar dens, as a grateful and desirable table escu lent. Latterly; however, its cultivation as a -feed for stock has been prosecuted with great' success; and those who have had the most - experience in its management, and who, con sequently; arc the most competent to decide in reference to its intrinsic value and-excel lence, insist in 'giving it „the foreniost rank among root crops, and as superior, in many respects, -to the turnip, orteven beet. The Seed of this vegetable, it is well known to . 1 practicalpersons frequently fails; even where 1 the coincidence Of external influences and eir t cumstances appears most strongly to favor its success. This is attributable to the hard and indurated pericarp. which renders a previous ' preparation, like that required by-locust seed , ' necessary to success. Hot --water, however; ' should not be Used. A steep, formed - of urine 1 and gypsum, in which the seed May remain submerged till the integument is softened, and the germ swollen, produces the most fa ! vorable effects on this -seed. After sowing, the soil should bextirefully compressed about ' it, and the surface sprinkleaWith house ashes; 1 gypsum and lime, equal parts. The parsnip requires a warm, light and deep soil, rather t inclining to moisture, but not wet. eel-cu.—The seeds of this plant also ger minate tardily—a circumstance which. ren ders.previous- preparation, by means of some I softening or modifyinft agent; utterly indis- I pensable. Steeping in.luke-warm water for the period of twenty-four hours belbre Corn ; mitting it to the soil, will lust& a vigorous ' germination. Carrot Seed.—lt is not untrequently the t case, that carrot seed fails from the soil'being too hot mad. dusty at the time of sowtont. I Igenerally consider it advisable to soak My carrot before committing it to the soil, unless 1 the lame' is unusually wet and cold. Rolling thoroughly the suillee, or effecting its:corn ' pression and consolidation by some 'other ef ficient means, insures a more ready start than I call be expected from seed sown in light soil Iwithout some such assistance front art. t Carrot seed is also, like parsnip and- celery 1 seed, greatly advantaged, and healthfully I stimulated; by being previously soaked. Old. I carrot seed should never be sowed, as it can not with safety, be relied on. —Norristown Herald. .3 , Patent Lubricating Oil. D. D. SCHOENER.
