A Locofoco Jurnal of our borough copies an article which wa s written written for the Journal in April last by the junio editor, in the shoelace of the senior editor. We frankly admit that we, in com mon with others j had some misgivings about Gen. Taylor's princifinca on the subject of the Protec tive Polley, Slavery and other domocratia Whig measures at that time, all of which were howev er removed by the appearance of hie Allison Jet ter, in which he pledges himself not to veto any measure of domestic policy, that does not conflict] with the constitution. Now it :is well known that 'Protection to American Industry, Slaveryi] in our Territorier., Distribution of the tiol — dfund' . • .I among the States, &c. are all question; which do not conflict with the Constitution, nor are they .., -questions against which hasty legislation' can be urged, as they have been discussed far yeers by the people. Gen.-Taylor eipresoly states in that .letter,_ that if the people's representative, pass these laws he will not veto them—and if the rep resentatives do not . pas, them they cannot .be come laws even with Gen. THE WORKINGMEN 'AGAINST TILE VETO, 49.1,15 FOR TAYLOR AND FILLXOREI We have seen no resolutions adopted during the whole campaign that please us so much as those adopted at the great meeting of the Cart men end Draymen of the city of New York.— We append them below , and commend them to the attention of the people of this eriunty. This monarchical feature (which appears to be so great a favorite with the Locidimos.) must be confined to the limits the framers of our Constitution in tended it. We. the outman or New York, in mace meeting assembled, regarding the present Presidential election as involving the great notation of—whose will shall be the law of the land f—that of the Executive, or that of the people, as expremsed through their repro• sentatives in Congress assembled :—Therefore— Resolved, That we regard the will of the people, while acting within, conmitutional limits. as the fun damental principle which forms the enduring basis of all our free luau:diem:and that the wanton end ea. pricious exercise of the one man power, to thwart the people's will, and to *observe the paltry purposes of party, calls for the severe and indignant condem— nation of every patriotic heart. - Resolved, That oar model of a patriot and theorist we would choose for our children, is no", and ever will be. found in the character and life of him who - was "first in war, firm in , peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Resolved. That Zachary Taylor is a Waraitictron• patriot. The man of our choice—the man of the people—an honest, determined and just man—a noble General. and, with sound judgment and prompt action —wise in council—;ready for battle, and an earnest advocate ofkhonorable peace We are proud of his gallant deeds and brilliant-victories. and willingly and heartily Confide in his undoubted patriotism. For him we meet—for him we speak—for him we will act, till we add our victory to his victories, and the cheers of happy mdliem shall resort:id and be echoed over all the hills and in all the valley. of our favored land. • flcaolred, Thu Millard Fillmore is soother ems pie for the American Boy—he has elevated himself by.. a faithful service and an honest patrome= wathont the influence of birth or the aid of wealth, 'inc.—. CO i. DLEIN*III6 , - The Coal digge r Pottsville and we believe in Pittsburg are sti of to apply for a law to give them wages lien on the coal mines. ' This would seem to show that the coal diggers in Penneybrs nia are under some disadvantages. If so, we ad vise some of them to turn their steps in the dine tion of the . minas in this neighborhood. Here the diggers make a pretty fair proportion for all the money paid for coal here. On this side of the river they usually get nearly one-half ; while the proprietors get only about one twentieth.— (St. Louis People'', Organ. The Coal diggers of Pottsville had no Wet of asking for inch a law, because they have sufficient good sense to know that no such law can be pm.' ed. It was a few Locofoco politicians, whose fundiWere low, and who desired to "diddle" the Miners out of fund's to wry them to Harrisburg, as borers; but they could'at .come it,' and have drop-. ped the law like a hot.potatoe, since the election. The only lien our Miners and Laborers went on the Coal Mines, is the Tariff of 1842—that never failed to secure them good wages, and they were promptly paid too. GEN. , WASHINGTON ON THE VETO The following is an extract from s letter writ ton by the Pettier of his Country, in 092, while President of the United States, to Edmund Pen dleton : "You do me no more than justice when you suppose that from motives of lisped to the legis lature, (and I may add from my interpretation of the Gonstioation) I give my signature to many bills with which my judgement is at variance. In saying this, believer, I allude to no particular act. From the nature of the constitution, I must approve all the parts of a bill, or reject it in colo. To do the litter can only be justified opou the clear and obvious ground of propriety; and I never had such confidence in my own faculty of judging as to be over tenacious of the opinions I may have imbibed in doubtful cases." . . How completely they correspond with the views of Gen.Tsylor on the same subject. The first instalmenipf the fraudulent and hea vy draft made upon the industry of Schuylkill County, in 1844, was paid on the 7th of October. The endorsera have been '•held very Uneasy" for some time past. Our i.npreseion is. that a similar fraudulent draft cannot be palmed off upon our citizens again. The Locefoco Stale Central Committee has published an address in which they propose to investigate the •'unparalleled frauds,", which they lineage have taken place' in !Schuylkill County. The eve ning selected too was unfavorsble—the political clubs also met, —and polities is the all absorbing question here at present.
