The return of Our volunteers from Mexico was' hailed in Minersville with every demonstration of rejoicing. As soon as it wes.known that Captsin Nagle's Comptiny would probably arrive in Potts ville by ,Friday, (the 28th alt.) the citizens of this borough commenced vigorous preparations where- - by to express properly the general lively joy, and also with a hope, which was not disappointed, that they would betinduced to visit us. Arches were ,sprung over the streets, flags •and banners were [hung t•on the outward walls," wreathes and tran- I sparencies decorated the fronts of houses ; and laltogether this little, almost unthought of town, wore a gala-day dregs. It would take too much time to describe partic ularly all the arangements of arch, banner, decor ation &c ..displaird. • Early on Tuesday morning the American flag was run up at Mr.DeHaven's Foundry and Ma chine shop, by the men in his employ. And soon after a handsome national flag, 18 feet deep, was suspended across Sunbury street, from Michael Weaver's Hotel to J. 'W. Gibbs' Drug Store.— These were the signals for general preparation. The workmen in Mr. Dellaven's employ erected rolls on their different ihops, surmounted with (large wooden cannon, and other devices; from these, lines were passed, connecting the shops (five in number) end from each line the National flags, the smallest of which was twelve feet long; swung in the air. A flag, oe staff, 95 feet high, wee run up from the dipole of the foundry, from which floated a splendid silk flag, the national stare and stripes, of couree; and from the sides of the cupola, fluttered four smaller'flags. • No less than_faurteen arches were erected on Sunbury street: most of them were beautifully and tastefully decorated with appropriate inscrip• tions and sentiments, wreaths of evergreen and. nattiVeland artificial flowers, the handy work of the ladies; for they too caught the fire, and la beled with effect to do honor to worth and valor: Most of the flags too, were made and presented by the Ladies. For instance, the large silk flag, end 1 tidieVe also two or three others at the Foundry. Also, the fine flag sq Weaver's hotel; one at Ellis' hotel, 27 feet fond . ; one et Mr. Trouts corner, 22 feet long ; one at Jacob drain's hotel, 30 feet lung; one at Sterner's corner,—also, one at Gain• er's hotel ; and how many more of the number that upon-this occasion were flung to the wind, were given by the ladies, it isnot possible to say. The decorations were not confined to Sunhury street, but were conspicuous all oviir the •Borough, , and 1.11.0 stars and stripes floated gaily from al. roost et cry 'bop and °Nei . ) , high roof. On Friday, after the reception in Pottsville, cdtnnottee from this place waited -oo Captain Nagle, requesting him and his c.:;:untand to visit Muieraville.' Mineriville presented a brilliant and lively scene. During the evening the borough was generally illuminated. Everybody seemed crowded on the streets, fire works tracked and gloWed and Whirled everywhere, and air piercing rocketi with long tails of tire, darted up high in air, as if emulous of the power of comets. Se ended the day. V' An incident —A Paris corressondent, of the New York Herald wriies:— .4 have referred to the manner in which onesol. dier was served, after all his companions, number ingfourteen, had been killed by the mosses during the third day of the r v lu i , n in Paris, et the guard house of the Place de Is Concorde. It wall be remembered that rushing through the masses. the Vayonets and showers of halls, a female seized him about the neck, telling him her father and 'demanded that they should eparo him. In all this she was successful. No content with this, she secreted him, and by her daily leper supported him, until it was safe for him to make his appear ence and gain his own substeoce: this he did as soon as he could, and finding himsrlf in good bus iness, last week he reciprocated the protection he -had received, by milting this young girl his wife. The affair has created a good deal of interest; and they, at least, will have cause to be reminded of the revolution and some of its effects." • Looking glasses.—As ladies are proverbi ally fond of looking glasses, (says an exchange) they should be made acquainted with a fact, but little known or attended to, that the beauty and cluth of their reflected images very much depend upon the quality and color of the glass itself, which are easily detected by merely holding white paper edgeways to the glass, and just so much li the reflected paper varies in color from the paper applied; in the soma propoition are their com plexion's apparently tinged or blackened by it; Thus many persons are continually imagining they , look ill," and perhaps, from this circum stance, really become so, from the habit of using a glass' that unewieciolisty disfigures them. Eri — The Freud. arernment has received a telegrophic onnuunccoient that on the 7th inst., 'he Pope recognised the French Republic. Sensible.—The locofocos of New York are ahoht to have Groneraleass' portrait painted.— This is the only canvass on which be will make a respectable figure. THE MINERS' JOURNAL,. AND POTTS'VILLE GENERAL- ADVERTISER. The reception of the volunteers, together with Clayton's speech; and a variety of other matters, prgveuted us, iu last week's number from noticing the general apPearence of our returning soldiers. Colonel Miyukoop presents a no mili tary appearance, is well and hearty, has gained a little in bulk, carries his arm in a sling froth an accident received at :N. Orleans, and looks, as he has shown himself to be, a thorough officer, mea gre a fierce pair of mustaches, which giver him rather a savage aspect. Captain Nagle rearms much improved in appearance, riAlr thinner in the face but still in the best health. Though in stature not above the middle height, a thorough knowledge of his official duty, a. modest ease of manner, atid'a fine military carriage, render him one of the best Captains of the regiment. He is every inch a soldier. Licuterhut Kaarchei-, Nagle and Mier are all in fine health, very officer-like in their deportment, and though a good deal bronzed from the exposure incident to a Southern Campaign, are none the worse. for. wear.. The furmer gentleman left herd with the company in very bad health and returned, strange to say', entirely recovered. Major 51c5licken has rather improved in appearance, and seems to have fattened upon hard service. -The soldiers gener ally am a hearty, bravo' looking set of fellows, rather swart and sun burnt, but all in good health.
