Hoard of Ile&ItU Notice.
INFORMATION has been made to the Board of Health
that cases of cholera occurring outside of the city have
Imen brought within its limits for reUef. No doubt the
friends oi the sick are prompted by motives of humanity,
yet it is proper they should be informed that they subject
themselves to a severe penalty by bo doing.
The Legislature passed laws regulating this matter,-in
cases where the disease is malignant or oontaglons, in order
that the densely populated city may be protected from any
unnecessary scourge, which, when it has gained a footing,
scarcely rests so long os there remains a subject for it* re
morseless attack.
The Board of Health are determined to enforce the law.
If patients seized with cholera, or any malignant or conta
gions disease, outside the city, moat be removed to any of
the Hospitals, persons conveying them thither must have a
permit from the Board of Health.
The attention of all person* interested is called to the
following sections of an act approved April 8, 1852:
Szc. 6. That any master, commander, or other person
having charge of any vessel or steamboat, violating any of
the rules or regulations prescribed by the eald Board of
Health, under the provisions of this act, shall, upon convic
tion thereof, by indictment or prosecution in any court
having jurisdiction, pay a fine not exceeding .five handled
dollars, to be recovered and paid into the treasury of said
Board of Health.
Sko. 7. That whenever the Board of Health shall receive
information that any malignant or contagions disease
(measles excepted) prevails within any port or place within
the United States, they shall make diligent inquiry concern
ing the same; and If it shall appear that the disease prevails
as aforesaid, oil comm uni cation with such infected port or
place shall be subject to such control and regulations oS lhe
Board of Health may from time to time direct, and publish
in one or more newspapers published in the city of Pitts
burgh ; and thereupon every person or persons, and! all
goods, wares and merchandise, beddiog and clothing from
such infected port or place, and having entered and been
brought into the city of Pittsburgh contrary to such regu
lations, shall b« subject to the same penalties as is provided
for in the preceding Section. j
The penalties of the whole act will be strictly enforced.
