Dobbs, of the Ninth 'Ward, In_ the absence of Coroner Lowry, held an. inquest this morning, in the office of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, at the outer Dipot, on the body of a woman who died on the Emigrant train that arrived here yesterday morning: Tram the testimony of the witnesses It appears that the female, whose name was Ann Jacobs E started some time since from Wales, the country a her birth, in company with her hnsbend, for :the purpose of locating in Ohio, near Galliopolie. - They arrived at Lancaster ; in this State, on Saturday last, whore she was con fined, and gave birth to a child, which however, lived but a few hours. On Thursday she ap peared strong enough to resume her journey, and started for this city. Daring the day, or towards evening, she became ill, and her has baud administered, to her . a quantity of cold wa ter, thinking it would do some good. In a short time, however, sho became worse, and before medical aid could be procured she died. A verdict was rendered in, accordance with the hoots. A CARD.—We, the afflicted parents of the un fortunate boy who was killed at Altoona, by the oars, on the morning of the 25th last, take this method to return oar most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the managers of the Pennsylvania Central Railroad Company, and others, for the kind attentions paid to cur child in his suffer ings while living, and for the neat manner in' which ho was dressed, carload and returned to as. Oar especial acknowledgments are due to Messrs. Adams, Keller, Fox, and all others who took so active a part in arranging and attending the funeral; and though our hearts are wrung to their utmost endurance by the untimely end of our offspring; and though an important de pendence, in a pecuniary way, has been cut off by the sad event, which no one could control, we atilt heartily appreciate the kindness and sym pathy they have manifested towards ns ; and though we long lament our loss, it will be a con soling raileotion to.know that all was done that Could be. STAPUING Arream..—Yesterday morning a man roamed' Hugh Hagan entered Beck's Lager Beer Hall, in the Fifth Ward, and comixienoed an un provoked attack on Henry Baker, who was quietly drinking a giass of beer. Mr. Baker, not wishing to have any diffitailty with the man, turned to leave the place, when Hagen pulled out a I rge knife, with which he made a violent thrust at the other•. The blade entered under the arm of the attacked party, out through hie clothing, and made a pretty severe wound in the side. The injured man made information of the circumstance before Alderman Parkin ethe, and Hagan was arrested and committed to jail for assault and battery with intent to kill. A subsequent commitment was lodged against the same individual, for surety of the peace, on _.oath of John N. Young.
