WEDNESDAY MORNING:::: Pic Nio.—The second annual Pio Nio of the Allegheny Literary Society will be held on Thursday next, in the woods, near Kilbuok Sta tion, on the Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad. This Society differs from almost every other one, in this respect, that it is composed of both sexes, the females enjoying the same rights and privileges as the rougher sex. The officers, at the;present time, are all ladies, with the excep tion of the Secretary. They meet together semi monthly, alternately at the residence of each member, , and discuss all the prominent ques tions before the public, and other matters of interest. Tho ladies and gentlemen connected with the institution, although young, are re markably promising, and disease their subjeots with ability. We have no doubt all who are fort - ovate enough to be present at the Pic Nio, will have a pleasant time. . , Ilsavr R ms.—Ano th er , tremendous rain oc curred yesterday, from which eensiderable dam age resulted. Several houses in the upper part of the city wore loosened from their foundations, and the immense body of water pouring down the hills, filled up the cellars and lower stories of a number of others. It has rained every day for almost a week past, and farmers already be gin to fear damage to their crops. The wheat is mostly in shook, and is liable to a second growth, while the corn, it is feared, will be wash ed out. Whilst our farmers were congratulating themselves on the immense harvests, these rains throw an effectual damper on their hopes, and lead us to believe that no blessing will come without some alloy of misfortune. ACCIDENT —A little fellow, in the Fifth Ward, named Holmes, who was ambitions to "rise in the world," injured himself considerably, yes terday morning, by falling a distance of about fifteen feet. He was endeavoring to climb to the top of ,the Fairmount Eoglna House, but prier raising himself up some distance, lost his hold, and tell to the ground. He was rendered insensible by the fall, but as no bones were broken, he escaped easily enough. He will probably be careful next time that hie ambition does not get the better of his good sense. PICZPOOKESB IE xaE MABlKET.—Yesterday af ternoon, a lady named Mrs. Newell, from Alle gheny, had her pocket picked, in the Diamond market, of $l4, Contained in a bead purse. There appears to be a gang of pioayunish thieves who operate almost every market day in the markets, and it would'nt be out of place for our police to take a peep, now and then, in that portion of the city. BoninAny.—The dwelling house of William Stoinbaugh, es police officer, No. 624 Liberty street, was entered through a back window, on Sunday morning, between one and two o'clock, and a pocket-book, containing $l6O in twenty dollar gold pieces was taken from a table where it was lying. TiILiNCLSO'S PATENTED ATMOSPHERIC BUTTER CUCRNS.— Thr Churn patented by S. P. Francisco, has surpassed the most sanguine expectationsof those who have witnessed Its operations. It will churn cream or milk, in a proper state, in an exceedingly short space of time, (from two to Eve minutes,) and extract from it a larger quantity of hut ter, and a bettor quality, than any other churn in use. 1 t is constructed upon purely scientific principles, and from the peculiar form of the dash, diffuses through the entire mass of milk, thereby causing the butter to collect:ln a very short time. This churn is very simple and not likely to got out of order; is of oonvenient size, easy action and abundant strength, being decidedly superior to all others. 1110 facilities to take out the butter, to scald and clean the churn, are not to be surpassed by any. In offering this VALUABLE LABOR SAVING MACHINE to the nubile, their attention is specialty invited to an ex amination of its merits and utility over ever:, thing of the kind yet invented. We are now manufacturing this staple article in Pittsburgh. I never cold a bottle of it but that sold another; after a trial, It always speaks for itself. There are two things about this herb that appear to me surprising: first, that it grows In our pastures, In some places quite plenti ful, and yet its value has never been known until I discov ered it in 1510--eemnri, tint it should cure all kinds of humor. In order to Ore some Hen of the sudden vivre and groat popularity of the dlecovery, 1, will state that In April, 1953, I peddled it and told about Aix bottles per day—in April, 185-1, I eold over on, thousand ladtlee per day of it.
