TRISP4DiT MORNING '" Cueing& Ittriions.A number of busy bodies, oritOsitie;who appear to have no better coca , . .PatiOni — have been industriously employed the list ;week or two circulating through the city reports of.deaths from cholera, until they have thoroughly alarmed a great many nervous pee -' ' pie. This conduct on the part of these persons • is reprehensible in the highest degree, as there is sot the slightest foundation in truth for their stories. The report of ' the-Board of Health shows that the city is as healthy as usual, and not a death has occurred this summer which could in any way be ascribed to the cholera. But while deprecating any needless alarm on this subject, we hope our city authorities and oiti - rens generally, will not forget that we are as liable to a visit from the scourge as last year, and neglect those sanitary and precautionary measures which serve eo usefully as a preventive. .:It is now near the time, if it comes at all, that - it will make its appearance, and. experience has ,Shown that it rages most violently where the air - has been rendered impure from any tsetse. Stagnant ponds of water, filthy streets and gut ters, water in cellars, dirty and crowded houses, carcasses on the streets and open loth, all emit an alluvia that materially assists the disease, and causes it to spread from one locality to another. Therefore, it will be seen how neces sary it is that all nuisances of this .oharacter should be attended to, and removed, if possible, before the warm weather Bets in. Too long a delay is quite as fatal as no effort at all, to ward off the disease. To procrastinate, is to invite the calamity, which timely action may avert al together, or render comparatively manageable and har mless. — There is economy, as well as im tdasurablelsednrity, in being beforo hand with a disease like the cholera. Every expedient which can be employed to repel or disarm it ought to be applied long in advance of its oeming. It is high time for the authorities to think and act on this matter, for otherwise the disease may be upon us before we know it is at our doors. UNPRICIDENTED Ross is TECH RIVERS.—The heavy rains of Tuesday produced an unexpected and unprecedented rise of ton feet in the rivers, in less than twenty hours after. The rafts men were better prepared for a rise this time than at the previous freshets, and consequently antlered but comparatively little damage. The fall of rain during fifteen hours was greater than in the three mouths of June, July and August, last year, the gunge showing that one inch fell in less than twelve hours. On Pennsylvania avenue, a house was moved several feet, and the cellars in various parts of the city were overflowed. Through the country, considerable damage was done to the crops and property. A groat amount of hay was destroyed. The post master at-Barrington, Washington county, writes us that Raccoon creek was higher than it has been since 11331, and the mill dam at that place was carried away by the flood.
