We observe by n publication of the proceed ings of the Allegheny County American Execu tive Committee that the Slavery plank in the Philadelphia platform is expressly repudiated. NicCrea who killed Clark at Leavenworth, Kansas, in a public meeting, publishes a state ment of the affair, which, if true, shows con clusively that the killing was purely in tell de. fence. lle charges that a conspiracy had been organized against him, and that, although he avoided a quarrel in the meeting, it was delib erately forced upon him by Clark, who three times struck him with a club, and wno, with hie gang armed with pistols and knives, were rush ing on to kill him when ho fired. We have been in the habit of heading of the great wealth and natural advantages of Alle gheny county. Its ineihaustable supply of bi tuminous coal, its excellent sail, its rivers, canals, and unsurpassed facilities for manufac tures and commerce, and its thriving popula tion, already 170,000, give promise that it will be one of the wealthieet counties of the United States. But there is an adjoining county that possesses advantages and natural wealth almost equal to our own. And that wealth and those advantages are becoming developed of late. It is Beaver county. Railroads are traversing it ; manufacturing companies are locatiog, in it ; and Its coal beds are now opened and exhibit a rich ness of quality and quaatity that are nowhere surpassed.. We propose now only to give a brief account of one of its coal beds. In the toweship of Darlington, Beaver coun ty, a short distance east of the Ohio State line, and situated on the Little Beaver river, there is a tract of about 1200 acres of laud underlaid by a stratum of cannel coal, fourteen feet in thick ness. There is priibably in that bed over 20,- 000.00 , 1 tons of coal, so situated as to be easily worked out, tied having the advantage of rivers and railroads to carry it to all the markets of the country. Oa the same land, too, there arc three strata of bituminous coal, one of which is six feet in thickness. Professor Hall, an emi nent geologist, estimates the oannel cool on that track at twenty million tons, cud the bitumi nous at nine million tons. Fire clay is also found on the land. A mere valuable tract of land it would bo herd to find. A compauY vas formed some time ago for the purpose of mining this coal, awd transporting it to the markets. It has already expended near ly a quarter of a million of dollars in building a railroad six miles long and connecting with the Ohio and Pennsylvania railroad, and is buildings, mining implements, and the mining will be carried on vigorously hereafter. It is sold in Pittsburgh at $2,50 per tun, which is about eight cents per bushel. It is here about two conic dearer than our iiitutoinotie o=l. Its transport by railroad will ad.l some thing to Its cost ; but those wha give it a fair trial will prefer it to our common (veal, uotwith• standing its somewhat higher ptiee. The pe,o pie in the vicinity of the mine use it in prefer- once to other coal, and for twenty miles around ;' the mine it is in common use by the people; and thli year the company is prepared to send large quantities to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and down the river. In speaking of the quality of this coal, Pro fessor Hall says: The coal is extremely tough, bearing several blows of the hammer without breaking ; and on account of this quality it is mined with little lose, and Is admirably adapted to boar tranepor tatter'. Like all the cannel coals, it does not soil the fingers on handling, and from its clean • !Moss and ready ignition, is admirably adapted to domestic use. For the production of gas for illumination it is likewise of great value. There Is no doubt that, whenever this conl shall be supplied to the markets, a largo demand will ensue, and that it will come into general use wherever it can bo supplied at a price not too muoh above that of other coals. At the pre sent time there is no similar coal furnished in the Cleveland market, where there will necessa rily be a large demand, both for domestic nee and for steamboats. So far as expense is con cerned, it can be mined and transported to Cleveland for lees cost than the principal bitu minous coals brought there at the present time, which are now selling at $3,50 per ton by the cargo. We. have seen thie coal tried in a dwelling house in common grates, for cooking and other purposes, and consider it preferable to the coal in common use in several resPeote. Its cleanli ness is a decided recommendation. It does not soil the fingers in handling, aad does not throw np so much smoke and soot. It gives, too, cheerful light in the room ; is soon ignited, and easily kindled, and is very easily managed so as to keep fire over night. For cookiiig purposes it is excellent, giving out a strong heat, and requi ring but a small quantity to make a fire any point desired. There is no danger of its driving other coal out of use; bat at the same time there is no doubt that this cannel coal will find a ready market as fast as it can be supplied from the mines. finch is one of the sources of wealth in Beaver county. Taking the estimated amount of the coal in the field and the price at which it is it will be seen that the mine is of vast value, and the prospects of the Company most flatter keg. ser The communication in another column , signed " Anti-Skulker," is worth reading. This has been done under the second sectioned' the sot of June 12, 1810, and the proviso of the first section of the act of 3d March, 1853, for closing land offi• cea when the unsold lands shall amount to less than one hundred thousand acres, to complete the consolidation cf all the laud offices hereto fore existing in this State at Chilicothe. This is the first of the land States in which the offices have all been consolidated into one, and seems to illustrate the excellence of the course adopted by Congress for closing the land business in the respective districts as the lands are sold out, and, at the same time, collecting the evidences of title at one point. Under the same law, these documents should more properly be removed to Columbus, the seat of government, where the archives of the surveyor general's office were transferred some years ago, and which would thus bring together under the complete control and supervision of the State authorities all the information that could possibly have a bearing on the vested rights acquired in any way through the government of the United States, to he re sorted to in cases of litigation or disputes. A fat man, therefore, almost in virtue. of being a fat man, is, pee or, a popular man, and commonly he de serves his popularity. In a crowded vehicle, the fattest man will ever be most ready to make room. Indeed he seems to be half sorry for his size, lest it be in the way of others; but others would not have him leas than ho is, for his hu manity is usually commensurated with his bulk. A fat man has abundance of rich niece. Tie hinges of his system are well oiled; the springs of his beiog are neiseless ; and so he goes on his way raj acing, In full contentment and placid- I try. A Cat man feels his position in the world ; • knows that his being is cognizable; he knows that he Las a marked place in the universe, tied that he need take no eztra pains to advertise mankind that he is among them be knows that he is in no danger cf being overlooked. It does really take a deal of wrong to make one really hate a fat man ; and if we are not always as cordial to a thin man as we should be, chrietlan charity should take into aaceunt the force cf prejudice which we have to overcome against his thinness. A fat mat is nearest to that most per fect of figures, a mathimatieal sphere; a thin man to that most limited of !occeirble dimen sions, a simple line.
