AN ELOPSKSitt; Whit)/ has caused quite an excitement 'amongst the - friends of the parties, took place on Friday evening. The bold wooer IS a young gentleman of many excellent person al qualities, handsome, dashing, and well worthy •of the amiable bride he has won. The lady re -aideS near East' Liberty, and is noted for her beauty. The parents were opposed to the Match, but, as love laughs at opposition, this did not matter. Oa Friday evening the lady left home for , the purpose, as was supposed by her friends, of visiting a neighbor's. This was tree so far as it went; she did repair to a friend's house in the vicinity, but ere long a number of buggies were driven up to the door, 'one of which she was immediately seated, and conveyed to this city, where a well known clergyman soon united the happy pair in mar. Boon after which they left for parts known. Parsing Strucivax, one of the men who was injured in the fight at the Point, on Friday even ing, resides in Coal Lane. He was bit on the top of the head with some sharp substance, which loosened the scalp, but did not inflict a dangerous wound. No doubt is entertained of his recovery. The other man, who received a blow on the temple, lives in West Pittsburgh or Temperanceville, and appears to have been in jured more severely. The person who is alleged. to have inflicted these injuries is named Jack Shepherd, from Ill'iteesport. No attempt has been made to assist him as yet, we believe. WE CALL ATTENTION to the advertisement of Mr. Gabriel Barr, in to-day's paper. Mr. Barr has opened an Intelligence Offioe at No. 410 Lib erty street; and having a very extensive know ledge of the city, and unusual facilities for the successful prosecOon of his bpsinvs, he will be able, be. feels assured, to accommodate those who call upon him. Housekeepers in want of servants are commended to the good services of Mr. Barr, as well as others having occasion for such an agency. A WOMAN WHIPPER.—.A poor libel on ha manity named Isaac D. Belton, was committed to jail, on Saturday, by Alderman Major, for knocking down and abusing three females. One of the women was quite old, and afflicted with the palsy. He claims to be a person of consid erable wealth, but as he was unable to procure bail, this is rather problematical. When he comes up before Judge M'Clure, he will receive his deserts. BOY DROWNED. named Brown Whit ta ker, about fourteen years of age, was drowned on Saturday morning, in the Ohio river, at Witco's Rocks. He was playing on a raft, and accidentally fen in ; before assistance could be rendered he passed under the raft, and was not seen again. His body was not recovered. We believe his parents reside in the Sixth Ward. - . RECEIVING STOLEN ROOD 3 —A man named Patrick M'Cloy was held to bail, on Saturday, by Alderman •.Wilson, for purchasing stolen goods. The - articles, consisting of several pieces , of jewelry, wore taken from William Neely by a.couplo of boys, and bought by de fendant, although be • was notified they were stolen. ' ROBBERY Tx THE MAHHET.—Mrs. White, of Pitt township, while walking through the Dia• mond market, on Saturday, was robbed of her purse containing six dollars. The puree was valued highly on account of being a gift from a friend, and if the thief will return it, no ques tions will bo asked about the money. DETENTIONS —Thin express train which left here on Friday Light, at tcn o'clock, was de tained a couple of hours at Larimer's station, by the breaking of the engine. The train due here at 3 o'clock Saturday morning, was kept back, a short time, from the same cause. THE COURT OP COFINION PLLAS wag in Bee• skin on Saturday. I know the effect of It In every case So Rare as Water will extinguish lire, so sure will this cure humor. I never sold a bottle of it but that sold another; after a trial, it always speaks for Itself. There are two things about this herb that appear to me surprising: first, that it grows In oar pastures, in some places quite plenti ful, dad yet its value has never been known until I diaccv• erect it in 1848—second, that it should cure all kinds of humor. In order to give some idea of the sudden rise and grest popularity of the discovery, state that in April, 1853, I 185 peddled it and sold about six bottles er day—in 4, I sold over one thousand bottles per p day of IC. April, Some of the wholesale druggists, who have been In busi ness twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the annals of patent medicines was ever like it. For the various diseases of the Liver, Sick Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly in Diseases of the Kidneys, Etc., the discovery has done more good than any medicine ever known. We have seen the testimony of persons well known to no, who have used the compound successfully, thereby corroborating the opinion of its restorative earn gy. We know of nothing more desirable la the way of per. tonal comelineas and comfort than a goof head of hair, an d any process try which this crowning ornament of the outer man can be preserved, or recovered when lost, without, in the latter case, a resort to Wigs, Toupee and Scratches, de isms Co be hatiedand embracd with gratitude by all of either sex, who are unlucky enough to need its benefit. We took occasion the other day to notice this valuable compound in the above terms, and now republish what won thou said, to show again our favorable opinion of it. The foregoing is taken from the Petersburg (Virginia) fatelligeascer, and refers to an article which has for a time been advertised in our columns. We must confess that we have been somewhat sceptical as to the remarkable infects attributed to this famous "Hair Restorer." But our in• credulity has been greatly shaken within a day or two by seeing a couple CI certificates of well-known and perfectly credible citizens of the neighboring town of Preston --one of them the Captain of a New London whaling ship—to the elect that, In each of these cases, a two or three months' use of the "Restorer" had actually brought out a new and vigorous growth of hair upon the head where it was before bald—the baldness being, in one case, of more than twenty fears standing. We do not suppose it is by any means coo min that, because the application baa been thus successful In ore case, or two, or a dozen, it is therefore certain to prove equally successful in all. But with such hem:C:o'ov evidence as the foregoing, very few bald heads, we suspect,' would willingly forego a fair trial of the "Restorer." All such "old heath" are informed that the article can ba had at Messrs. Lee it Osgood's —Norwidi &ening Charier. Indeed, very few are tie NI ''Yt''':SL--- diseases in which a Purgative Heil. eine is t more or less req,and much sickness and suffering no might be prevented, uired if a harmless but effectual Cathartic were more freely used. No person can feel well while a caustic habit of holy pre vails; besides, it soon generates serious and often fatal diseases, which might have been avoided by the timely and judicious use of a good purgative. This is alike true of Colds, Feverish symptoms, and Bilious derangements. They all tend to become or produce the deep-seated and formidable distempers which load the hearses all over the laud. Hence a reliable family physic is of the first im portance to the public health, and this Pill has been per. fected with consummate skill, to meet that demand. Art extensive trial of its virtues by Physicians, Professors, and Patients, has shown results surpassing anything hitherto. known of any medicine. Cures have been effected beyond belief, were they not substantia•ed by persons of such ex. aired positions and character as to forbid the suspicion of untrn tit. These Pills, the result of long Investigation and study, are offered to the public Se the best and most complete witch the present state of medical science can afford. They are compounded not of the drugs themselves. but of the medicinal virtues only of. Vegetable Remedies extracted b y chemic a l process in a state of purity, and combined to gether in ouch a manner as to Insure the best resulte. The system of composition for medicines has been found In Cherry Pectoral and Pills loth, to produce a more efficient remedy than had hitherto been obtained by any process. The reason is perfectly obvious. While by the old mode of composition, every medicine is burdened with more or less f acrimonious and injurious qualities, by ibis each Indi vidnal virtue only that is desired for the curative effect is present. All the inert and obnoxious qualities of such enbstance employed are left behind, the curative virtues only being retained. Ileuee it is seltevident that the effects abould prove as they have proved, more purely remedial, and the Pills a more powerful antidote to disease than any other medicine known to the world. As It is frequently expedient that many m edicines should be taken under the counsel of an attending Physician, and as he could not properly judge of a remedy without know. ing if., composition, I have supplied the accurate Formulre by which both my Pectoral and Pills are made, to the whole body of Practitioners in the United States and British American Province... If, however, there should be anyone who has not hie request. received them, they will be forwarded by mall to Of all the Patent Medicines I hat are offered, how few would be taken it their composition was known! Their life consists in their mystery. I have no mysteries. The composition of my preparations is laid open to oh men, and all who are competent to Judge on the subject freely acknowledge their convictions - of their intrin.ic merits. The Cherry Pectoral was pronounced by scientific men to be a wonderful medicine before He effects were known. Many eminent Physicians have declared the same thing of my Pills, and even more confidently, and are willing to certify that their anticipations were more than realized bytbeir effects upon trial. They operate by their powerful Influence on the Interco' viscera to purify the blood and stimulate it Into healthy action—remove the obstructions of the stomach, bowels, sob:niter organs of the body, restoring their irreem correcting, wherever they ex flairrer a , ction to health, and by ex ist, such derangementa as are the Lest origin of disease.
