Rosanna' owlEwnwt.--About two weeks ego, w-couple of watohes, jewelry, &0., to the amout.t of $2OO were stolen from the boarding house of Peter Ilge, in the Dlatnond. Yesterday, tbn proprietor of the house made information be fore Alderman Parkinson, against William Smit h and John Bowen, two of his boarders, for the robbery, and procured a warrant to have thcir trunks searched. A. Gamma named Frederick Fennerlefeldt was committed to jail, yesterday, by Alderm . Wilson, for refusing to procure bail to prosecu , e a charge of assault and battery, on which he was the complainant. • self-destrnotion occurred on Monday evening, on the Noblestown Plank Road, about four miles end a half from the city, the circumstances of which are as followd: MAY $0 About half past eight o'clock in the evening, Mr. George Drake, who keeps a small tavern or boarding house a mile or two on the other side of Temperanaciville, returned from a vielt to Birmingham, having been absent nearly the whole day. When he entered the house he ap peared very much intoxicated, commenced abusing his family, and finally made an assault on his wife, but without doing her any matetial injury, although he threatened to take her life. Desisting from the attack, be then left the house and retired to the rear of the stable, where, with a large pooket knife, which he had been observed sharpening on a grindstone in the morning, severed his left arm, at the elbow, nearly in twain. The effusion of blood from the dissevered arteries was eo great that, notwith standing his situation was discovered almost im mediately, and assistance rendered, he bled to death in less than ten minutes. The wound extended nearly around the whole arm, and appeared to have been made with decision. Yesterday morning, intelligence of the occur rence was sent to Coroner Lowry, who proceeded to the place and held an inquest on the body, when the facts, as substantially stated above, were elicited. A son of the deceased also testi fied that hie father had been drinking almost constantly for a week past, and believed that his mind had become affected by hie dissipation. When sober he was a kind husband and affeotien ate parent. The following verdict was rendered by the jury: " That the deceased, George Drake, came to his death by toes of blood from a wound in the left arm, inflicted by his own hand while laboring tinder an aberration of mind." The deceased was formerly a police officer in the borough of Birmingham, and his melancholy end affects his family deeply. He leaves a wife and several children. He was about fifty-five years of age. The foregoing fe taken from the Petersborg cri r e a to InteriVencer, and refers to an article which has for a time been advertised in our columns. We must confess that we . have been somewhat sceptical as to the remarkable effecta attributed to thli famous "Hair Restorer." But our in credulity has been greatly shaken within a day or two by iPeinga coopleCirrerthicates'of bell-known and perfectly -- credible citizens of the neighboring town of 211813t0p—one of them the Captain of a New London whaling ship—to the etf,ct that, in each of these case - s, a two or three 1:120110;:e tlBO of the" Restorer" had actually brought oat anew and, vigorous growth of hair upon the head whereat was before, bald—the baldness being, in one case, of more than twenty.. years st ting.
