THE CITY POST.
TUESDAY MORNING::::
arra TO nose wtto Tram IN OMNIBUSES.-
, _
WC In find one if our exchanges, the editor of
which iteerns It-hare-hen annoyed Considerably
by'the Itentof a 'ends or politeness for omni
buses, several excellent' - suggestions to those
whit. 'tee that mode of conveyance. He says it
lestot rirroper for women to spread out their
skirts; when'a passenger is about to enter, in
*tacit° Malte him believe there is no room. It
is not proper to put children with dirty shoes,
upon the aeats, so that they may soil those who
are next to, them. It is not proper to.pull the
strap,-and then keep everybody waiting, w hil e
you search for your purse, first in this pocket,
then in that. It is not proper to 1 or at every
pretty girl who enters. It is not proper to in
commode others by boistereits laughter. It is
not. proper to bring - inside a shad, a basket of
marketing, or anything else which may possibly
prove offensive to other passengers, the right
place for snob things being on the top. It is not
proper to put a drunken acquaintance in an om
nibus, or to get in yourself if you have been
drinking to excess. It is not proper to let your
wet umbrella drain on the toes of a neighbor.
It is not proper, in short, to do anything, which
you would consider ill-bred, if done in your own
house'; for an omnibus, for the time being, is
the common rroperty, and domicile, so to speak,
of all who occupy it.
It is the duty of all, finally, to see that no im
position is practised, either by the drivers or the
passengers, or by one passenger on another. It
is especially the duty of the gentlemen to be
courteous to women, particularly to those who
mem fatigued, or have children with them; and
it Is the duty of the sex, in return, not to im•
pose on the men, as is so frequent a practice in
an °Wilhite._
Wo really see no reason why these public con
veyances should continue to be tho bear-gardens
they are so often made to be..—why they should
remain the favorite retreats of boorishness, dis
comfort, and all sorts of selfishness, instead of
becoming a common ground for the exchange of
the civilities and amenities of life.

Money, Dry Goods. &a
The week closes upon a 'fitters, yet abundantly supplied
money market. The banks, bankers and monied capital•
fists all have more money to employ on temporary invest
ments than they knew how to use satisfactorily, and long
investments Or stock investments having an uncertain fu
ture are not to their liking. The amount of good paper of
fering for discount is exceedingly llgt The - heats of sum
mer most come and pus before much net mercantile paper
in made and offered. The tendent7 of the market is, there.
fore, to lower rates for loan end discounts. The closing
quotations ran..e from 5 to 6 t rent. for call loans, 53,5" to 6
for good paper, 60 days to nix months, and 7 per cent. for
second class.
It is considered probable that the European steamer to
call hence on Wednesday, will take $1,000,000 to $1,5C0,000
of specie. bleanwhEe our receipts are large, and the bank
statement of averages of this week is likely to show some
