It appearit that ',Laughlin procured a buggy from the livery stable - Of Mr. Charles, on the pretense that he wanted to - go to a funeral. Mr. Charles ascertaining before the return of Laughlin that - this excuse was a subterfuge to get the vehicle, made infor mation against him at the . Mayor's office for false pit:dances, and when he came back, officer Scott .took him into custody. _ On the way to the police - ;station, a friend et Langhlin's came np and ad . vised him,to take - to his heels. The advice was adopted and Laughlin started ca like a quarter horse. Scott, fearing he wall about to lose his prison er, Palled out a phitol, and rashly fired twice after the runaway, fortunately, however, with ,ont doing • him any injury. This still further achelerated the speed of the fugitive, and pur sued by several officers and a large crowd drawn together by the noise, he ran at a 2:40 rate for several squares, until-brought to bay somewhere near the Hand Street . Bridge.. He then at tempted to make resiatance, but the officers luting their maces pretty freely on his head and face, he was non put hors du combat, and secured. He was taken to the tombs and looked up, to await an.examitiation this morning. The , affair created quite an excitement in!Allegheny, and, when the prisoner was brought back, five or six handred , persona bad been drawn out in the streets by the occurrence. - Tau BATEMAN Cannuss.---These truly gifted children appear this - evening, at the theatre. Notice to Banks and other Corporations NEE DIC A Li. tirilurtria Blair IteatoWe ri.:=This 'preparation seems'to be efficacious for the nestoratitin ot the hair upon' bald headi. We have seen the test imcny of persona well known to ots'who have need the compound successfully thereby corroborating the opinion of its restorative ener gy. We know of nothing more desirable 112 the way of per. sonar comehneaeand comfort than a goo i head of hair, and any process hi which this crowning ornament of the outer man can be preeeriredi'oriecovered wheu lost, without, In the latter case, a resort to Wigs, Toupee and Scratches, de- Fortes to be hailed and embraced with gratitude by all of either sex, who are unlucky enough to teed its benefit. We took occasion the other day to. notice this valuable compound in the above terms, and now repu'dish what was then said, to show again our favorable opinion of it. The foregoing-is - taken from the Petersburg (Virginia) inteßigencer, and refers to an'article which has for a time been advertised in our columns. We must confess that we have been somewhat sceptical as to.the remarkable effecte attributed to this famoui"ltair Restorer." Dut our in• credulity has been greatly shaken within a day or two by seeing a couple of certificates of well-known end perfectly credible citizens of the neighboring:town of * Prestott--one of them the Captain of a New London whaling ship—to the . _ effect that, in each of thesenams, a two or three monde use of the "Restorer" had actually brought out a new and vigoroUs growth of hair upon the head where it was before bald—the baldness being, in one case, of more than twenty years standing. WI do not suppose it Is by any means crr , , lain that, because the application has been thus sateen - fed in one case, or two, or a dozen, it is therefore certain to prove equally successful in all. But with such lieadgirong evidence as the foregoing, very few bald heads, we suspect, would willingly forego a fair trial of the " Restorer." All such old heads" are informed that the article can be bad at Messrs. AND . AGDE. This preparation far the treatment of the above disease, and perfect eradica tion of the canoe, is ono of the most important Chemical Discoveries of the 19th century. Its neutralising effects on the poisonous gases are instantaneous, and acts like a charm upon the whole Nervous and Muscular-System, re storing the tone7of the Stomach, and invigorating the Con stitution. -Unlike the general remedies resrrted to for ititreatment, such as . Quinine, Arsenic, etc., which leave the system worse than they found it, it improves the general health, purifies the blood, and stimulates the different organs to a regular and healthy action. Being prepared under the immediate supervision of an eminent Chemist, uniformity of strength may always be relied on. Its unprecedented demand, and the thOusands of testimonials from eminent Physicians, and others who have bean thoroughly cured, are a sufficient guarantee of its superiority over an other preparations.
