FRIDAY MORNING TOM RXOIIIITI93IBIB tO Layton returned at a late hour hist night. • A full account of the ex oarsionmill appear tomorrow. A Demurrer. SOIREE —A private musical soiree was - given by Mt. Kleber, at his new nide: towns, on Fifth street, on Wednesday ifliinti-wira one of the most delightful that ever transpired here. The :company was not numerous, but select, and included amongst them some of the best vocalists and instrumen tal performers in the city. It would, perhaps, be invidious, where every thing was well done, to speak of the merits of any particular performer, but we cannot refrain from noticing the superior manner in which several pieces were executed by Mrs. Downing. (late Miss Kraft.) The loxu riancre of voice and artistical skill displayed could not be surpassed, and the enthusiastic encores of the delighted listeners amply testified how well they were pleased. Mr. Kleber also per formed and sang several pieces with admirable ekill. In fact, all acquitted themselves in the • most satisfactory manner, and were rapturously applauded. During the course of the evening, an elegant dejeune was set out, to which am ple justice was rendered by the guests. The whole affair was of an exceedingly agree able Oharactet, and when, at elate hour, the as• rambled. - company.dispersed they seemed to ledie with evident reluctance. The music rooms at present occupied by Mr. Richer, are extremely: handsome, consistent, and well adapted to showing off to the best ad vantage the fine stock of musical instruments he always has on hand. The first story is used as a sales room, , in which are kept all the latest and. most fashionable music, and musical basun. ments, a varied assortment always being found here. The second story is devoted almost ex clusively to exhibiting his extensive supply of beautiful pianos and melodeons, specimens from every manufacture in the world being shown. We were - particularly pleased with a largo and elegantGrawiPiano, from the factory of Nunns Clark; New York, on which several pieces were performed by. Mr. K. ; its tone was as sweet es the most delicate instrument, and yet of suffi cient power when occasion required to fill the largest hall in our-city.• It is a magnificent in• strument.. -We also admired a curiously carved and sweet toned piano of German manufacture. Mr. Bieber has gone to considerable expense in arranging his new store, and- we arc glad t o know his prosperity has been sufficient to justify him for the outlay. He is an-enterprising, ac commodating and obliging, gentleman, and we will always be pleased to hear of hie continued success in business. Au hour spent in looking at Mr. Bieber's now e :nre and wareroome would repay the musical smate",.P. There la still an abundance of capital for all actual business requirements; hardly any street de mand, and no pressing demand anywhere In fact. The bustle of Spring trade is pretty well over, hence capital will continue to increase and consequently the demand for money will be less. Our business mon are all satiffiel, we think, with what they have done. The trade ha' Wen only tolerably active, and much behind last spring in magnif ludo. A safer mole of doing business has been pursued, however, ;stitch, with the general atm to place commercial affairs!* ouch a,;:ondition as to meet any contingency that may come, speaks well for our merchants, and they must reap beneficial results as the frufl of slab precantic a. We have seen the testimony of persons well known to us, who have used the compound successfully, thereby corroborating the opinion of its restorative ever gy. We know of notbio r more desirable in tile way of per sonal comellneac and comfort than a goo t bead of halr, and any process by which this crowning ornament of the outer roan can be preserved; or recovered when' lest, without, in the - Sager - case, a 'remit to Wigs, Teupes'eed Seratelfes„ de :commie be bailed and grubraued:with . gratitude by all of either sea, who are unlucky enough to r dPc benefit. We' took . occasion the - other day to notice this valuable compound in the above eerie, and now republish what wait then said, to show r gain our favorable opinion of it. The foregoing is taken from the Petersburg (Virginia) Intelligenver, and refers to an article which has for a time been advertised in our columns. We must confess that we have been somewhat sceptical as to the remarkable effects attributed to this famous "Thar Restorer." But our in credulity has been greatly shaken within a day or two by e..eing a couple of certificates of weU-knovrn and perfectly credible citizens of the neighboring town of Preston—one of them the Captain of a New London whaling ship—to the effect that, in each of these cascs,u two or three months', use of the "Restorer" had actually brought out a new and vigorous growth of hair upon the head where it was before bald—the baldness being, in one case, of more than twenty years standing. Wi do not suppose it is by any means ce lain that, because the application has been thus successful in one case, or two, or a dozen, it is therefore certain to prove equally successful In all. But with such head-strong evidence oe the foregoing, very few bald heads, we suspect, would willingly forego a fair trial of the "Restorer.': All such 'sold heads. are Informed that the article can be had at Messrs.
