All sorts of robberies, from burgle . rite down to the most petty larcenies, are per petrated daily and nightly with the greatest im pudence and impunity. In hardly a single case yet have - thieves been detected, Bud they work - • with as much coolness and daring as if their op erations were strictly honest. Oa Friday night the bed rooms of several of the boarders in the 4ftgle Hotel, Liberty street, was entered by one „1, - kof these rascals and various articles of value ta +r ken from the clothing of the sleepers. A Mr. James Al'Auley, agent for Bier & Co., lost a gold watch worth $7O, $1,50 in change, and a new hat. The clothes of Mr. James Flynn were • thoroughly searched, and $8,60 taken from the rickets. As the robbers came down stairs they _ - found the porter asleep in the bar room, and • ' took, $3,60, all the money he had. On Saturday morning Mr.•M'Anley called at Paulson's to get . -a new hat, and found that the hat had been left there In - exchange for a. couple of caps, by two young men, who called early in the morning. He pro poses that at a given signal, (say the tapping of • a bell,) the engine shall be taken to any desig nated place within the limits of the city. That a-space shall be kept clear, so that the persons engaged on the machine may have on opportuni ty-of performing their duties free from interfer ence, and that the time shall be counted from the tapping of the bell, until thp first water is thrown. Although satisfaction was given on the first trial, Mr. Shawk thinks it was not what it could or should have been, taking into could eration what it has done in other places. Jiattnoen InoN.—The Illinois Central Railroad have entered into a contract with the Brady's Bend Iron Wotks, for a supply of 11,000 tons of Railroad iron. The Iron is now coming down the Allegheny river, and will be transported to Cairo, The Cleveland and Mahoning Railroad is also receiving 6,500 tone iron from the east, by way of the Pennsylvania Railroad. The water gained rapidly, but discipline was maintained among the crew and passengers until communi cation was had at Panama, when the steamship J. L. Stevens went to their rescue and landed them all safely at Panama. On the 3d the steam ship Panama was despatohed to the assistance of the vessel and there were strong hopes of sa ving her.
