A. 0. MURDOCK, - ■■■■'■■ Phyaiilaa of Hoard of Health, . Ukued States Disibiot Couet.— Judge Ir Win presiding. Uoitcd States ts Peter Grundy; indictment, counterfeiting coin of the United States. - Ja November last information tvae received from the United States Marshal at Cleveland, that a man named Jones was arrested in that city with a large quantity of counterfeit money In hie possession, which ,he stated ho had re ceived from a Peter Grundy, in Pittsburgh. On the strength of this information Mayor Volz ar rested Grundy at an eating bouse he kept on the corner of Water and Wood streets. A thor ough search of the premises then followed, and a large quantity of counterfeiter’s tools—such as dies, &0.,- found secreted, together with abont thirty pieces of spurious coin. This was considered sufficient evidenoo to warrant his commitment to jail, and ho was accordingly sent there to await trial. Subsequent to'bis being taken into custody it was ascertained that the money found upon Jones, in Cleveland, was good coin, and received its suspicious appear ance fbom some substance carried along with it in the man’s pookot. This fact, however, did not lessen tho strong presumption of Grundy’s guilt, founded on the articles discovered in his honse; and when hi® osbo came before the Grand Jury cf the United States, on Tuesday, they found a true bill against him, and Bent his case np for trial. . Hon. Charles Shaier, United States District Attorney, represented the prosecution, and Col. 8- W> Black and John M. Hampton, Esq q ap peared for Grundy. A large number of witnesses, mostly polico ■officers, were examined for the United States; by them was proven the fact of the finding of the implements formating counterfeit ooin in Grundy's house, aod that ho had several pieces of spnrionß ooin in his possession when arrested. For the defenoe it was shown that the pris oner, previous to this oharge, bore an excellent character, always maintaining the reputation of an honc6t, upright cilijen, and that as ho koDt a public house, which was greatly resorted to,‘the implements found there might havo been left by some of his visitors. * The testimony on both sides was oonclnded j uat prior to the adjournment of Court in the .evening.' The arguments of counsel will be heerd this morning. 1; . As long as it was only used for the pending of amatory epistles and love tokens, it waoellwoll enough; but when the Silly and the vicious toot advantage of the day to despatch .foolish caricatures and obscene ■verses, it.is better “honored in the breaoh than the observance.” • ii'r'i'S'K’-': New York Herald, Times, and Tribune.— Persons desiring to be faithfully served with ftbese papers can be accommodated by leaving 4heir,orderB at Gallagher's Book store, 71 Fifth is the carrier, and he is on ;rainjor shine, ag soon astbe cars from ttofl Eastaro io.
