Miseries' of. Citybolsi by Guns Us.
The City Councils met, in joint merlon yester
day morning, at their chambers, for the purpose
of electing city officers for the ensuing year.
After both bodies were properly' inginised in
their respeotive roams, the Select Uottnell ad
journed into the Common Council chetahs; and
the joint meeting called to order by Mr. ICAn
ley, President of the S. C., taking the chair.
Mr. 0. 0. Loomis, of the 8. 0., stated that he
understood that one of the members from the
Eighth Ward was a tax collector, and he desired
the chair to decide, that if such wia the ease, he
should not be allowed to vote.
Another member objected to Mr. 'Loomis' re
quest, se the Individual in question was a C
mon Councilman, acid the 8. C. hid no righ
to interfere.
The President deoideat the whole matter out of
order, and Mr. Getty then moved they go into
election by- ballot - for city officers. This was
also decided to be out of order unless the rules
were suspended, but upon taking a vote on the
subject, the decision of the chair was sustained.
The eleetion was then entered into in the usual
manner, by viva wee, with the following result:

COT AND DRIED.—A 0111C118 meeting of the
~..,
.z . linow Nothing members of Council was held
x., • day night, at the Bank Exchange, at
. e ticket, as elected yesterday morning,
at outtoil Chambers, wan agreed upon. The
..41*
asedisiblage ii represented to have been quite
lively, and an the candidates were, of course, no
way stingy - , the nhampagne is said to have flow
ed, ancithe oysters disappeared, with a velocity
quite gratifying to the proprietor of the estab
lishateitt - We beard of one caucus man, who is
stated to have drenktwenty !leases of ale at the
expenie of an ardeidt seeker after office, but
upon whom he did not bestow his vote after all.
We don't rough for the troth of the story, how
ever. The meeting was kept up Raul the " wee
ama' bourn," and after its adjournment, printed
slips of the - candidatesnominated, were made
in the, office of .one of the successful persons,,
which were distributed to each member of 'the(
canons early yesterday morning. This consider
ate arrangement avoided all delay and confu i .
aloe, and allowed each Councilman, who might
have forgotten. upon whom he was to confer bin
suffrage, to vote knowingly.. The coneequence
was the election did not consume more than half
the time usually occupied. The little mown
statude.thet the officers were elected by about one
third of the, members of Councils, was not worth
taking idle 'account ~
