Sohadd, the Librarian of the Young Men's Library eillsoldatien, a copy of this report for the last year. tie report is too long for publication, entire, but we extract from it the following information: Mr. Behead states that at the time of his appointment as Librarian of the institution, the Library contained 2,878 volumes. Within the past year, there has been added 246 volumes, 107 of which were acquired by purchase, 92 by 4ionations from friends of the institution, and 47 by the binding of maga zines, reetewa, pamphlets and newspapers—eo that at present, the number of volumes belong ing to the Library amounts to 2,624. From the 10th of January of last year, there has been taken from the Library 2,921 volumes. In the lt,oling Room, last year, there were received 81 papers and eclatag The num ber of papers roqai present amounte to 87, of which there are 22 daily, ind 15 weekly papers: Of magazines, monthly, quarterly and weekly periodicals, we receive 22. Among the books of the Library are some curious literary propitiations, which would adorn the collection of • an antiquarian ; amongst these is a very rare Latin copy of Pomponius Mela and Julius Seli na& published at Buil in 1576, and a Latin oopy of Handicap' Letters, published in 1660. Mr. Solusad also says that in order to obtain a More moist knowledge of the books in the Libra rary, he has completed a classified catalogue, Which will be ready for the perusal of members as soon as It shall have been examined by the Library Committee. The classification will chow that the department of Rhetorical writings is the richest in the Library, as It contains more then 800 volumes. Commonwealth vs. Emeline Keating; indict ment, larceny of $1,600. The defendant iu this Use is a young and very interesting looking orphan girl. She wan brought up in the family of Dr. lieGonangj, formerly President of Wash ington College, and 'resided in Washington until some time in June or July last, when she came over to this city on a.visit to the family of Cad- Walladite Evans. During her residence in the hones of Mr. Evans, fifteen hunired dollars were alleged to have been stolen from a bureau drawer, of which Mrs. Evans only bad the key, and : Miss Heating was suspected of having coin witted the larceny. Information of the theft was made before Alderman Steel, who issued a warrant and held the accused to bail on the folcharge. The ease wog to have been tried of the lowing term of Court, but from the absence of important witnesses, was postponed until yesterday. This case excites more interest than any one which has yet come up during the present ses sion. The Court room was crowded to excess all day to the hour of adjournmeut in the even ing.
