ASTRAY IN ran FIFTH WARD.—A MAN PRO BABLY KILLED.—A murderous affray occurred on Saturday 'morning, about 8 o'clock, in the Fifth Ward, between one of the employees at Coleman, Hellman & Co.'s Bolling Mill, named Terence Degan, and another person called James Thompson. It appears that Thompson had been in attendance at a ball somewhere in the Fifth Ward, and coming past the Iron Works at an early hour in the morning, in' an intoxicated condition, commenced to annoy Degan, who was engaged wheeling coal into the mill, by pla cing obstruction' in front of hie wheelbarrow. He was told to desist, but paid no attention to the request, when Degan attempted forcibly to push him away. This created a scuttle, and In the fracas Thompson caught np a pair of tongs, used for polling iron out of the furnaces, and still red hot at the ends from recent use, with which he grasped Degan around the body. The unfortunate man writhed in agony until he got loose, when he seized soother pair of tongs, ly ing at his feet, to repel the assailant; but be fore he could succeed in using the weapon, Thompson struck him on the side of the head with a large cinder, or "clinker," with such foree as to fracture his skull. The wound was an extremely dangerous one, and we understand from the physician in attendance tkat but little hopes of his recovery need be entertained. After the ocenrrence, Thompson made his es cape, and although the police have been dilli gently on the search for him, ever since, we be lieve he has not yet been captured. Mee KILLID ON TIM OHIO AND PENNSYLVANIA RAMIOAD.—The express train OD the Ohio and Pennsylvania Itailrcied, which left for the West on Saturday morning, ran into a large rock, that had accidentally fallen across the track near Jack's Bridge. The train was going at full speed at the time, and the obstruction was not perceived until too late to stop the engine, which rushed ae-iinst the rock with frightful velocity, doubling it up into all sorts of shapes, smashing the tender into pieces, forcing the baggage car back into the first passenger car a distance of ten feet, and instantly killing the fireman, a young man named Hiram Miller. The engineer, who was, of course, the first to see the impend ing collision, jumped off, and thus escaped corn partitively unhurt, receiving but a few trifling bruises. The baggage ear and two passenger cars were thrown off the track, but fortunately none of the passengers were injured. The rook was of immense size, weighing over - twenty tons, and fell from the bill above the track a distance of one hundred feet. We be lieve there is a watchman engaged along that portion of the road, to see that the track is per featly clear previous to the passage of each train, and why he did not observe the obstruc lion, we have not heard satisfastorily accounted for. Killer was a young married man, and leares • wife and one child, who reside in Allegheny. The morning accommodation and mail trains were detained a couple of hours beyond their regular time by the accident. gMIE . • , t • EEO Tem PsTityr Consunnin HAT, is the name of a new style , that that most persevering of all men, Alf.
