THIIRJ3DAY MORNING::: Ag- TO LII3 YOB SALE AT THIS 01110 E. nom or RITUON—OPEIBING CER=O.llll,B. The ceremony of dedicating the House of Refuge of Western Pennsylvania to the benevolent ob ject. for which it was destined, took place yester day.; and, as the weather was most auspicious, nearly fifteen hundred ladies and gentlemen were i present. Our readers are aware that this insti tution is located in Manchester, about a mile and a half from the city proper, and we also in formed them, some time since, that it was in-' tended to be more complete than any similar structure in the country. If any had doubts previously as to the correctness of this state ment, they must have been dispelled by an ex amination of the building yesterday. As many as could gain admittance assembled in the chapel at 11. A. M., when, on motion of Gen. J. K. Moorhead, Hon. Wm. B. Me Clore was chosen chairman. The chairman. then call ed on the Rev. Mr. Howard to open the meeting with prayer, which he did in a fervent address to the Throne of Grace. R. L. Baker, of Economy, Beaver county, Dr. Stanley, of Fayette county, and J. C. Cummings, of Pittsburgh, were chosen Vice Presidents; and Messrs. John Harper, Jonas R. McClintock and George Fortune, Secretaries. The meeting then being folly organized, a beautiful and appropri ate hymn was sung by the Choir. The Chairman then arose to request the orate.: t it the day to take the stand, when B. H. Kerr, Bay Moved that a committee be appointed to dr t resolutions expressive of the sense of the meeting. The motion being seconded, Moser .% B. H. Kerr, Rody Patterson, Geo. W. Jackson, John Anderson, and Rev. Mr. Quick were ap pointed such committee. Hon. William Wilkins, the speaker selected for the occasion, was then conducted to the stand. We will not pretend to give even nn outline of the venerable speaker's remarks, and we are in formed they are to be published, in miens°, in a few days; we will merely say they were received with numerous marks of approbation, and the entire address listened to with breathless atten tion. After Mr. Wilkins had concluded, the Committee on Resolutions returned and report ed the following, which were prefaced by a few prefatory remarks from the chairman, R. H. Kerr, Esq.: Resolved, That the opening of the House of Refuge is an epoch in the history of Western Pennsylvania, that is de serving of the highest commeadatin , , which is auspicious of the brightest mutate. Resolved, That the citizens that first moved in this liu. mane cad philanthropy - institution, deserve the gratitude of the community at large. Besdred, That the contributors and managers of flu House of Refuge are entiPed to the warmest praise of every humane heart, for the seal manifested by them in the et m pletion of the HOUSE of Refuge. Resolved, That to the architect., builders sal mechanics who so faithfully discharged their duties, we hereby toads to them the hearty response of our people, in the =plaudit finish given to this conceits huildtug. Restirtd, That we hereby tend.- to the lion. Judge Wit king our acknowledgments for his eloquent address on ihii oiscaskei—whichwye suet, as attslat be expected from ages. Raman eminent for his abilities end purity of heart. Bemired, That the Stress of this district is well entitle, to our thanks, for their disinterested advocacy of the Roues of Refuge; and also to the Clergy, who took so tease a part in drawing the attention of other counties to the benefit, that will serve all in the erection of this edifice. Beolred. That the moral and religious aspects of this Institut{ al ...tont:ly commend it to the sympathy and liberal euppott ot tlte whole community, and that particular in structions. It, z egard to its nature and claimxiare detirattle, and won., I, elittuted from all Miro:sties of the Ct-sp, Rev. Mr. Quick also made a few appropriate remarks, when the thanks of the meeting wore tendered to Judge McClure for presiding, and to Hon. Wm. Wilkins for his admirable address. 'The services were then closed by a prayer from the Rev. Dr. Herron. All the Board of Managers were present, ex cept Mr. Geo. Weyman, who was absent on business c..nnected with the institution. The Board are entitled to the highest meed of prior for the zeal lad energy they are shown in pushing forward this work. That they trive succeeded so well in accomplishing it thus far, is an evidence that they are men who know "no such word as fail." Our own county liar acted well in the matter, as have also many adjoining counties; but there are others that have refused entirely their aid. It is to be bored that when they see this institution in fall operation, and observe its beneficent effects in reforming jute aide delinquents, they will yet give their mite; for we understand there are still more fends • L needed to place it upon a substantial footing time from debt.
