C. MURDOCK, Physician of Board of health. lias/a, year.—We beard yesterday, of an instance of generosity which, we think, worthy of notice. One of oar wealthiest citizens, in proceeding from his residence, in Allegheny, to his place of business, on this side of the ricer, dropped his pocket book, containing nearly three hundred dollars and a quantity of valuable pa pers. The gentleman did not discover hie Liss until sometime after his arrival at his office, and was just on the point of returning to search for it, when a poor, forlorn looking woman, who ap peared to be in the extremeet poverty, entered, and returned the pocket book to him, with the money all safe. She had picked it up shillstlfat ter it was lost, and finding, from the papers in side, to whom it b,.longed, instantly started to return it. The fortunate man was so overjoyed at receiving it back again, that he directly made the poor woman a present of the magnificent sum of fifty cents for her honesty. The woman Was so astonished at his extraordinary liberality, that she forgot to thank him for it. The incident was related to us by one of the clerks in the office, who seeing the woman was in destitute circumstances, raised a subscription from his companions, and ha ,ded it over to her. erratum should be careful, these times, in closing their doors, at nightfall, as the rascals who abound in our community adopt all sorts of devices to .secure admission to houses which they intend robbing. On Monday night, as the family of Mr. Robinson, on Third street, were about retiring to rest, the gentleman of the house thought that he heard something moving in the garret. lie proceeded up stairs to exam ine, and arrived in time to ace a man make a ,sudden exit out of a dormer window ou to the roof. Mr. Robinson followed in pursuit, but the roof being very slippery, be was afraid to ven ture far, and the rascal made his escape by climbing down a ladder in the rear of the house. In his flight, he left in the garret a pair of boots and n dark lantern—the latter slide, provided, no doubt, to make a thorough search of the premises, when the family were asleep. Scalers ACCIDENT. A young man named 1 - ,terson, residing near East Liberty, wen rei L'usly injured on Monday, by being thrown fiom his horse, while coming into the city. The horse became frightened at a locomo tive, sod started off at great speed—ia his flight throwing the young man to the ground, with saffneient violence to fracture his arm, break couple of ribs, and injure him severely scoot the head. The accident was not discovered un• til some time after, when a couple of men passing along the road found him lying in an insensible condition on the road. He was conveyed to a neighboring house, where all the assistance ne ioessary was rendered. .I.)ifizateir Cot am—Before Judges Hampton • Williams. and . TUESDAY. December 12. ..te of Burns ye. Rev. A. A great invention triamtdus over all factious rivalry , even in this credulous age. It has been said that every city is a Paradise of humbugs ; but let a really meritorious article, capable of doing all that Is promised for St,be placed In competition with mss nostrums, sustained ly puffery, and not by their own excellence, and the true preparation will succeed while the trash fails Into =attempt. It has teen thus with CEISTADORCPS EXCELSIOR MIR DYE. It win offered as a preparation embodying all the chemical ingredients of nature's own blacks and browns. The chemists analysed it, acul certified to the fact. The public tried it, ma their experience confirmed the dictum of the nientific world. Its popularity wee alma as instßntanado .as the change of color it afflicts. The people were invited, through tininess, to see Its operation with their own eyes. They beheld red, sandy, yellow sad grey hair, traneformed in five minutes—without passing through any intermediate tint:—to a brilliant and rich natural black, or to any shady of brown. They found that the flail imparted no stain to the thin of the head, emitted no unpleasant odor, contain ed no cantelsing element. Of coarse, they endorsed it. They could not do otherwise; and at this moment the salea of the article exceed that of any other half down hair dyes in the world. It is the latest effort of science, and it may be truly mid, "the noblest offspring is the last.” The Ex colder Hair Dye must break down every other and monop din the market, simply because It is the beet. The recut: produces Is its sulfflient advertiseruset. Compare in operationa with that of other hair dyes, and judge to which of them the palm should be awarded. Sad wholesale and retail at DS.
