Bmmso,—The community were no Httle astonished
yeeterday by the report of the teilnre of one of our moet
prominent bankers and Flock broken, Ur. Alvin Wilkins.
After the news of hU closing begin to be generally known,
the depositors, and thoee Interested In the occurrence, oom
tteaeed to flock to Ids office on Fourth street, andbefore
eteran o’clock quite a large crowd had collected in front of
the dosed doors, Tbe crowd continued to Increase fbr eotne
• time, but at last, finding their wont fears realised, and
that hie failure was only too true, quietly dispersed.
Ur. W. tells fbr a very large amount, and we are sorry to
hear his depositors inelude a great number ofpoor and hard
working men and women, who are little able to bear this
soddeiUoes of all their hard earned savings. The Ices to
steamboat and river men alone, we believe, will be some
where in the neighborhood bf (40,000.
Ur. Wilkins was treasurer of the Pennsylvania Insurance
Company, and In the afternoon, at the instigation of tbe
fleentary of the Company, Mr, A. A. Carrier, was arrested
on a charge of embessttng the foods, to the amount of $4OOO
or (6000. He was taken before Mayor Volt, and In default
of finding security In the sum of (6000, committed to >ll.

BnbeeaueuUy to the above proceedings the defendants

water from tbe Iron works, and thus damage and inters the
establishment
The motion to grant the Injunction will be argued before

Auditor Dnu sund the Indiana Free
Banks.
The telegraph reports that Auditor Bunn, of Indiana, has
issued a circular to the effect that he will not sell stook
and mleem notes of Banks that may be forced into li
quidation, until he shall have given sixty days* notice, in
New York, London, and Paris, end oot even then, if he
should think it would be to the interest of the ownere to post*
pone the sale farther. He will famish securitise at par, how
ever, in return tor octet, when presented in sums of $lOOO.
It has generally been supposed that in establishing a free
banking system, the requirement of securities for the cir
culating notes, and the intervention of State officers for the
•afe keeping of thaee securities, «as to secure the interests
of notei nolden: but Mr, Bonn appears to.hold that be has
been placed In hi* position, es custodian of the bank escort
ties, to protect the internets of the Bank. The Free Bank
law of Indiana requiree that upon protest of tbs notes of
any bank, the Auditor shall forthwith give notice to the
bank protested, and after thirty days the Audltor shall im
mediately give notice that the notes win be redeemed out
of the trust funds in his hands. We find no authority in
tne law for any such delay as the Auditor contemplates.

A New England Physician
Says that b. a. Fahnestock’s vermifuge is the
only article that can be Implicitly relied on for the ex
pulsion of Worms.

7b B. A. fbhnestock <t Co,
OKN'rtom—For five year* put, I have u-cd B. A. Fahne
stock’s Vermifuge for an anthelmintic in my practice My
attention was first called to it In a case when 1 had toiled
to dislodge worms with calomel, pink and oowhage. A bot
tle was obtained, and u-ed with desirable effect; since then
1 have prescribed it for hundreds of patients, and in a
large majority of cases with oomplete success. In one case
a single bottle of tbe medicine brought away from one pa
tient ninety-eight worms. I have never known it to do
harm, and 1 am induced to make this statement from an
honest conviction that it is the most valuable Vermifuge
yet known. Such la mv confidence, in its “ worm-killing"
powers, that I recommend it to other physicians in this sec
tion, and furnish them with the article.
