Tks- JZitpr.—Last evening, at dtuk, there were, by the mark*, seventeen inches water In the channel. Mtun. Roblnaon, Hinie k Millar completed the job of putting the engines on the new steam tow-boat Tigress, ft* Biackmore, Gordon k Go., In fifteen working days. This la quite a feat, when the rise of the engines U taken into con sideration. The Tigress la intended for the towing of coal bargee for the Cincinnati market, and li one of the best models for running at the wharf The Missouri Democrat of November Ist, states that on the morning previous, when the steamer Reindeer was ready to leave Alton for 8t Louis, the starboard cap of her mud reclver banted, tearing away the “nigger” boiler, and scattering brick and mortar and other rubbish on the wharf. Three of the firemen of the boat were scalded, one of them to that extent as to preclude mueh hope of his re. covery. The boat had, at the time, a number of balae of hay arranged along the guards, and i t is said this saved the lives of several persons on shore. The steamer Ben. Franklin, a nsw Cotton boat, built at Brownsville, Pe., for the Cbattahooche river, for Captain Thomas Barry—a gentleman having hsd an experience of steam boating In the above trade for nearly twenty years— and Is a guarantee that the Ben JVanAttn is adapted to the trade. She measures on deck 145 feet; 24 feet beam; and 5*4 feet hold. She has false sides of five feet, and two water tight bulkheads forward and aft In her hull. She is capa ble of carrying 2,000 bales of Cotton, and is furnished with a capstan worked by a separate engine for hoisting freight from ships. Besides, her cabin is furnished in the beet modern style, with large rooms for fkxnlly use; and we would recommend the Ben Franklin to shippers and trav. elers who have business on the Cbattahooche river or in New Orleans, as she leaves on the first rise of the river.
