Davis, a reddest of Stewartatows, died sud denly os Thursday afternoon, from a too exoes die use of ardent spirits. The nnfortonato man was a tailor by trade, and formerly a very respectable and worthy member of the commu nity ; bat aboat eighteen months ago he com menced drinking excessively, and since that time has led a dissipated life, on til his constitu tion was oompletdy broken down by his exces es, and his death ultimately induced. The de ceased left two small ohildren, who, we onder derstand, have been plaoed in an Orphan Asy lum. Coroner Lowry held an inquest on the body, and returned a verdiot of “ death from an exces sive indulgence in spirituous liquors.” Ixqtist.—Coroner Lowry, yesterday morning, held an inquest, on the body of an Irishman named Hugh Riley, who was found lying dead on a cinder pile, in Soath Pittsburgh. The even ing previous he was observed to be drunk, and staggering through the streets of the borough; and it is supposed was allured by the warmth of the oinders, he laid down and went to sleep. When found, his head was considerably soorohed by the hot cinders. He was employed on the Pittsburgh and Steubenville Railroad, and we be lieve was an unmarried man. The jury re turned a verdict that deoeased oame to his death from oxcessive use of liquor, and the suffooaing effects of sulpharous vapors of the otnder pile. FottGEßY.—George H. Bell, Esq., yesterday, made information, before Alderman M’Masters, against Willison N. Fleming, for forgery. The parties, it appears, had a suit before Esquire Da* t dson cf East Liberty, for a certain sum of money but afterwards agreed to refer the mat ter in dispute to arbitrators, who made a report ; n favor of Fleming to the amount of $13,90. It is allego d that after this deoision was signed and sealed, the present defendant got hold of the dooument, broke it opeD, and altered the sum from $13,90 to $30,90. The accused resides Hear Braddock’s Field, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Two shall laos, named Noah Rea and John Brady, were arrested on Thursday night for the larceny of two pairs of shoes from the shoe store of Wybrant A Robinson, on Smithfield atroet- After a hearing beforo the Mayor they were both sent to jail. Rea has only been out of prison a short time, in which placo he lately served a term of three months, for ,a similar offence to the one now *'harged.
