A few evenings ago an attempt was made to break into the jewelry store of n. T. ratten, The plunderers, not suc ceeding im this, .went through tho kitchen win dow into his dwelling, and stole a new coat, some shirts, feaspooußt* &o. They then proceeded to tho toll house, and-went into tho apartment' where tho toil keeper was sleeping, and stole about .51, Ifi in change out of bis pantaloons pocket - The operation was . rather daring, bnt decidedly unprofitable. - Sad Accident.— A man in the employ of the Messrs. Hartman, of Manchester, as driver of due of their, omnibuses, was injured very se verely on Thursday night last, near the bridge over, the railroad, on Ohio street. He was riding on horseback at a rapid rate, Tor n physician to attend upon Mr.- 0. "Ilartman, who hod been -seized-with-a sudden illness, and when he arriv ed" at the bridge his horse stumbled and fell, •throwing his rider, and, it is supposed, rolled over him. Two,men wlio passed along a short time afterwards, found the unfortunate man, and carried - him to Bepler’a Hotel, on Ohio St! He, suffered ingreat agony until about 10 o’olock on Friday night, when he expired.
