We will not quarrel with him about the "vexed and unprofitable • Ifempfield ques tion." Although we can gee no necessity for that road, butenly a wild scheme to waste money, and impair the ,profits of the ,Central Pennsylvania road; still if the latter company are determined to make it let the responsibility rest. on those wi;O : have assumed the burthea. At this rata of increase, it would not require much time to run up a heavy balance against 0J in our foreign trade that would take a good portion of the •specie in the Wall street banks to pay. Fortu nately, so far, prices for our cotton and bread stuffs have been well sustained, and our credit abroad has been welipreserved. Railroad bonds and other securities have boon freely remitted, and found markets at fair rates. But for this we should have been in a tight place. There is great danger yet. The imports ere like to con tinue heavy, while we have no guarantee that 'our staple exports will continue in active demand at remunerating prices. The movements of the Bank of England are not calculated to aid much the negotiations of our securities abroad. They may call home a great deal of money temporari ly invested In this country. The financial heti. eon is by no means clear and cloudless. The following tabular statement shows the coinage at the !dint in Philadelphia for the month of February. The whole number of pieces coined is 8,059,825, of which 2,700,000 were in threr•cent pieces. Rather more than the usual monthly number of quarters, dimes and halt-dimes has been coined. Should the new coinage law go into operation on the Ist of June next, this labor will have to be all done over again. It would be wise if Congress, before the adjournment, would bring the three rent pieties up to the same standard with the now halves, quarters and dimes. It is a very convenient lit tle coin, and there is a general desire to continue it in circulation. As now made there is rather too much copper in it. After a little use it changes to a greenish color, and be3omes greasy to the touoh. By bringing it to the standard tinenese of the new coinage bill, this would be obviated, and without any visible change in Its size. The gold coinage for the mouth is not large. The deposits, though less than In Jan uary, are more than half a million greater than in February, 1852. ,• ' , , Kari; aad Yieeellanq. • .51,11ittnz: ICertierari, the opulent Washing tall 4.ter 4 his given to the Metropolitan Me . cl*cdtltlligittei • recently organized at Wash ingtimOratilitiolthetCoagress will incorpo rate it, $15,000 for a building, and $lO,OOO for a library. • Lottery tickete are now sold, as formerly, in Delaware.
