The Commieliner, on the authdrity of the Barr case, decided, this morning, the in this ex amination the testimony of young Filiras ad miesable, when the examination of Mr. Filley was resumed. My son told me the history of the Martha Washington case in July last Be Came to my house the February previous to make disclo sures, but did not have an opportunity. I wrote his statement out: and he signed it, in which he made a full disclosure. The defendant's counsel here objected to the reading and pnblication of this statement, but desired that the Commissioner should retain it. The Commissioner declined to assume the respon sibility of suppressing the document and it. was accordingly read, it covers four pages of foolscap. . The following is young Fllley's statement': On the 22d day of July, 1852, 4 Lucius L. Pilley, of the city of Cincinnati, State of Ohio, do hereby certify . that I am one of the firm of Riley & Chapin, tksaid city;. that the said firm consisted of ;L: - 1,41 7 i11ey and Rufus Chapin, who were knowntirthe actual active partners in the concern, but that AmasaCbripiu and Lorenzo Chapin were secr, etpartners, and had an interest in the concern jOintly. It amonnted or was called eighteen thousand dollars, and I have no doubt but there was that amount Inventoried and sol l to Cole. which I supposed included about all the stock of boots and shoes we bad on hand. I lEnow nothing l i of Cole only by way of Chapin, an bad barely seen him until the Chapins sold on to him. They recommended him very hi ly to me as a man of worth and high standing, and I learned nothing to the contrary until told ;by Carpenter there was leather on hand at the time of the sale to Cole, which might amount to three or four hundred sides of red sole leather. Can't say whether or not that was included in the bill of sale to Cole. I know of no white leather on hand. There were two or three hundred dozen sheep skins; can't any whidher they were sold to Colo or not; I only gave my consent td the trade of Chapin with Cole. The firm wee vastly in debt and I consented to any disposition of the proper ty they thought advisable ; Ido not know bow much money the firm owed Cole, that was gener ally managed by the Chupina The Chapin had Cole i s notes foe.the property amounting, I should think, to soml six thousand or eight thousaod dollars. .I acs taken sick. and know nothing how the matter!was settled at all. I know of no arrangement, and never hoard anything of shipping goods or leather on the Martha Washington, until I retched home on Wednesday night, the 7th of January, 1852. Oo the 4th of January, I went to Riplisy and bfays tille, collecting, and returned on the' nigh t of the 7th to my house on Sixth street, in Cin cinnati.
