Hunt’s Merchants’ Magazine, for November, contains a
paper on the tobacco trader the statistics of which sro exceed*
ngly interesting to American merchants, particularly in
showing the oomparativo production of each State—some Id*
creasing and others foiling off—and further showing the fact
.that the anuoal value, at this period, is no greater than that
of twcuty, thirty or forty yean since. It would seem from
this summary that the lowest (averago annual) prices pb*
talncd for tobacco were, in 1842, u cents;lB4s, Accents; and
Uiat it reached or exceeded 10 cents only la the five follow
ing years, vis —IBIG, 15)4 cents 1817,12 U cental 1818, ID
rents 1619,10% cents; 1839,10% cents.
The total valuo of the exports have vansd (except tho Em
bargo year and during tho last war with Great Britain) from
$2,160,000 (In 1811) to in 1830, lu
1844, and the. highest sum yet realised, $12,800,000in 1810.
