It be seen by reading the advertisement that he has on hand a most coin- plete assortment of every thing in the casting line, up from the smallest article to the , most " massive castings• No person who desires to 'purchase, can be disappointed ,either in prices or quality by visiting his establishment. He Is one of our most enterprising foundry men, and deserves success. SEP' "Gen. Scott ls vastly better off in the confidence of the honest and intelligent Irish '-. voters of the country."— Village Record, (Whig.) Yes. He ought to be. He hung twenty Irish Tokinteers in Mexico for desertion, and after . _words wrote a falsome letter in reply to an invi talon to attend a dinner on St. Patrick's Day, in which be said he had never known an Irishman to turnhis back on a foe. But wlaat has become of the "fire of indignition" under which he sat down in his parlor at the Astor Rouse? Hoe it all gone to the "rear," and is there not a single • spark of his former indignation left to enable the - party with which he labors to make bonfires of the Churches in which a large portion of our Irish fellow-citizens worship, as was done by • those with whom he advised in 1844? If he has none on hand, he had better manufacture it at 000 e, for many of his present supporters, who practised pyseteenics in '44, may desire to use the incendiary's torch when they aro defeated in November. The base attempt to do}olo the Catholic por tion of our citizens Into the support of the fath er of the party that burnt their churches In Philadelphia, murdered their brethren in the streets, and then hung them upon the hooks of the steps in the market-honse, is the most bra, zeu impudence we have over heard of. Even the editor of the Gazette, a man who applauded the • sactiletOons incendiaries and felt a fraternal - towards thatie who butchered Irish Cath olics,- is - now endeavoring to convince that nomination that they should take hire to their bosom as a friend, believe all be says, and vote as ho tells them! Yet, this man now, affects to be their dear friend, and desires them ti :ask him for information as to . how they shall • vote! Could anything more hypocriteal be ima -glued? When the editor of the Gazette bectomes the; advocate of tolerance towards Catholics, we . cannot adMit that wonders have ceased, and must believe that he has repudiated the leading • motives ;which governed his columns when 001'. A large and respectable meeting of the De mocracy of Butler county, was bold it the public house of . Mr. Zimmerman, in the borough of BUtler on Tuesday last, 17th inst. The meeting was called to order by L. Z. Mitchell, Esq., Col- N.DIEYLERT vas Galled to the chair. •On MO6Oll, Lies, WELSH, and W 55. P. MacKET, Esqrs., were appointed Vice Presidents; John T. Bard and Jams Bredin, Senrctaries. The object of the meeting was stated by E. Dredin, Esq., who moved that a committee of seven bs appointed to prepare resolutions cures sive of the sense of the meeting. Tho Presi dent appointed E. M. Brodie, Esq., Gen. John N. Parviancc, J. G. Campbell, Esq., John Barth, John Graham, Esq., John Dream atiti.V. Zr. Mitchell Esq., said committee. The ineffiling weaver, ably and eloquently ad dressed by Gen. J. N. Purviance, E. M. 13redin, Esq., Win. P. Mackay, Esq., John 11. Negley, L. Z. Mitchell, Esq., and J. G. Campbell, Esq., in relation to the death of Col. 114 m. Sesright, the Democratic candidate for Canal Commission'er, and in favor of Col. Joseph I'. Patterson, of Butler county, as a suitable person to bo nominated by the State Convention which is to assemble on the 26th inert., for the office of Canal Commis, stoner. The committee reported the following resolu tions which were unanimously adopted : Wuctiedis, in the death of Col. WILLIAM Sta atatrr, the Democratio party has not only lost a candidate for Canal Commissioner, who. In the coming contest would have been invincible, not withstanding the effortss of the Whig press to tarnish his fair fame. Society has lost an em phatically honest and upright man. And, where , as, by the death of Mr. Searight it becomes ne cessary to put in nomination a candidate for Canal Commissioner to supply the vacancy. Resolved, That we recommend to the approach ing Convention, Cot Josepu P. paTTEILSON, of this county, as a person every Way suitable for this responsible situation. Resolved, That his excellent private chnratter, his intelligence and known business abilities, and his unvarying adhesion to the faith and usages of the Democracy, point him out as a man who would fill the office of Canal Commissioner with honor to himself and the party of which he is a member, and who would subserve the real in. terests of the Commonwealth. Resolved, That our delegates to the approach ing Convention at Ifarriaburgh be instructed to press upon the Convention thenGtaination of Col. PATTEVAC/II by every fair and honorable means, and adhere to him until, if not nominated, his "case is beyond hope. Resolved, That the proceedings of this mooting be published in the Democratic Herold, Pitts• brirgh. Harrisburgh. Philadelphia, and-all other Democratic papers throughout the State. CANA'. COMMISSIOSSft. In our columns of this week will be found a communication recommending Gen. Wm. CALO. nen for the above-namedofilco. tancethedenth of Col. Searight, noman has higher claims upon Southwestern Pennsylvania than Gen. CaJohan —a man whose character as &citizen and busi ness man is not surpassed by any in the State. The General, if nominated, would carry a host of Whig votes—hie affable manners—gentlemon ly address and warm heart has built for him a popularity more reliable than that confined to mere party limits. ills long and unwearied ex ertions in behalf of Democratic men and meas ures have established for him a character as a working Democrat, surpassed by noun in Penn sylvania. He is at all times to be found fore most in enterprises having for their object gene ral good. In short, no man in tho Stow deserves more of the Democracy—or would be a more re liable standard bearer in the campaign of 1862.. The brief period until the assembling of the State Convention, precludes the possibility of a general expression of the feeling on behalf of the Democracy of this region, yet, doubtless, were the timelong enough to canvass the claims of the various candidates, Gen. Ws. Cstonsw would receive the undivided support of the Do motratic voters of this county. Before the assembling of the convention which nominated the lamented Searip,ht f Gen. Caloban was spoken of in various sections—and though not a candidate for nomination against Mr. S.. bin claims were warmly advocated by many of the sterling Democrats of Washington county. These things should not be lost sight of by our delegates to the Convention—who will doubtless wish to carry out the will of their constituents. Washington, Greene and Fayette,' might safely be . put down for Calohan—and their claims, as conceded by the last nomination, stand second to none in the State. Should the General re ceive the nomination, his name will insure en in creased majority for the Democrats of Western Pennsylvania— Washington Review. Canal Commissioner. • Mrssus. Conceded then as dim us, it is noleseso now, and we believe that the nomination of the gentlemen, of whom we hoar spoken, would ren der general satisfaction, and promotelhe inter ests of the party, since be is widely and favora bly known as an excellent business man, a thor ough Democrat, and to be highly and deservedly popular, that he could not be defeated, and so upright that the tongue of slander dare not touch the hem - of his garment.
