The furnace bemgpreparcd.taebaie wasplaced .Inside thereof, with books, papers and some money; when Ihedoorof the Safe was closed and the fire kindled ui - quarter past U o’clock, and in a short time the Safe was red hot, and conunueduil halfpust c o’clock, being aboui four and a half hours, when the committee expressed their sansfacdon that the time occupied wiili such heat was soffioiem. The furnace was then pulled down, Safe cooled, and door opened—the books, papers and money safe. The heat was so great as to melt off the brass mountings.
