I want_tetell you asecret. The way totnake yourself pleasing to others is to show that you care foi them. The whole world is like the Mil ler at Mansfield, ."who cares for nobody—no, not he—tweause nobody cared for him." And the, hole world. will serve you so, if you give them-the same cause. Let every one. therefore, see that-you -do-not care for them, by showing them what Sterne so happily calls, " the small, tweet courtesies in which there is' no parade, whose voice is so .still to tease, and which mani fest themselves by tender and affectionate looks, and little acts and attention—giving..others the preference in every' little enjoyment at the table, in the field, walking, sitting, or standing." This is the spirit that gives to your time.of life and to your sex their sweetest charms. It constitutes the sum total of all the witchcraft of women. Let . the world see that your first care is for yourself, and you will read the solitude of the Upaa tree around you, in the same Way,l37'the emanation of a poison which kills allthe juice of affectionin its neighborhood. Such a girl may be admired for her understand ingaiiticcompliehment, betake will not be loved. The seed of love can never grow but under the -warm anclgentle influence of kind feelings and affectionate manners. Vivacity goes a great -way in yoimg persona. It calls attention to her Who xlieplays it; and if it then be found associat. ed with a generous sensibility, its execution is irresistible. On the contrary, if it be found in tillisticewith scold, luittglay, selfish' heart, it prodiniestio - further effectexcept an adverse one. Attend to this my daughter. It flows -from a heart that:feels-for - you all- Gist a paient can feel, and not witlioutthe-hope which constitutes the parent's highest haptliness. May God pro test and bless you.— Wm. Louis, Jan. 28. ,The. Salt Lake mail reached Independence on Saturday evening. The delay in the arrival 1711 a °occasioned partly by frequent snow storms ,Tlci snow on the ground is from seven to ten inches deep. The mail was likewise detained by a band of Pawnees,-who ordered the carriers to go back, whioh they refused to do, and pro ceeded on their journey. The carriers were afterwards obliged to re main tea days in .a .village, under the pretext that they were frightening the buffalo, the Lake Indians having been unusually successful in hunting'. The Pawnees said that four of their number had been killed by the Sioux. The news from the valley is uninteresting: There' was nothing dohig at the Court stationed 'there. TERRIBLE CATASTROPHE. Sr. Loma, Jan. 28 S. Lanerbier, a tailor, residing on Third, near Market street, was found yesterday afternoon, in his bed room, at the.point of death. His wife, and a child about eighteen months old, were lying dead at his side ; a boy four years old, and a journeyman in the employ of Lan%rbier, were also if a very critical condition. .It appears that, from either carelessness in shutting off the gas at night, or from the burst ing of a pipe, the -house-bectane.filletk with gas, and they inhaled it, which caused the melanohcily result. Medical attendance was immediately sent for, and the survivors whose fate is very doubtful, were sent to the City Hospital. RAILROAD ACCIDENT. Johnston and Senator Cooper has probrbly arisen - from the quarrel between Messrs. Johnston and Daniels, of Riehmend, whichtas been amioably settled. The mails up to the 19th have been received. TO THE AFFLICTED—The appearance in three bottles of NUTALLts sY RIACUM is a new eta in me dicine, Hein its novelty and direct opposition to the old absurd and inconsisteru ONE BOTTLE SYSTEM; while its success, prepared in this manner, (each bottle containing a different preparation), in curing the differ ent stages which characterize Consumption, has estab lished the welcome truth of the Curabilitjol moo stage of Pubnonasy Consuraprion. Physicians approve of it because it is based upon cor rect Ph) sir/logical and Pathological principles. The public approve of it, because it is Common Sews, and because they know from sad treptristece that one prepa ration wilt 'totem* the Was stages of Consumption.— The suffering, disappointed and discouraged:invalid ap proves of it, because napiinciples holdout a reasonable Sops, and when he uses Ntnall's Syriacum, tus hopes are realized. If he Is in the first stage of Consumption, and uses the . first bottle, his expectoration, difficult and painful, be comes free and easy ; his cough soon gets well; the soreness, tickling in his throat, inflammation, pain in his breast, side, head, back, mints and limbs are removed. If he is in the second stage and uses the second bottle his fever leaves h ;--tus disturbed slumbers become sweet and refreshing ; his night sweats vanish ; his ex pectoration copious and bloody, assumes a healthy ap pearance. and at length disappears ; his bowels be come regular; his appetite returns; the flash in his cheek disappears; the burning heat intho palms of his hands and soles of his feet are felt no longer; his cough now ceases; he recovers and is well. If he is in the third stage, and uses the third bottle, his Diarrhota gradually ceases; his weak bowels become strong; his cough and other bad symptoms disappear ; feeble digestion becomes strong - \ and vlgcnous ; his stomach recovers its proper tone, and creates new, rich and nourishing blood; his strength returns; his wasted body is clothed with flesh ; sits LIVE 15 SAVED, and he is restored to health_ Fach bottle of NutalPs Sy i lac= has the Symptoms of the stage for which it is intended printed in front of the wrapper, w h ereb y every invalid, knowing his° wn syrup toms, can Judge for himself. Previous toronsultine you, I had suffered for several years from the effects of Self Abuse, and feel bound to express my gratitude to you, and to declare to the world that your course of treatment, both in a moral and physical sense, has been of the most beneficial char. actor. In early life, at school, I learned the habit of Self Abuse, and continued the practice for six years, without being aware of its sinful nature, or the terrible consequences sure to follow its indulgence. • I first ob served my appetite very much increased; but notwith standing that, I began to lose flesh very rapidly, andei hihit'considerable emaciation. After a time i however,. my appetite failed, and I became much debilitated,—this slightest exertion fatiguing me exeeedingig: My sight became impaired, and I found my memory not so good as formerly. I also experienced a total disability to eon c Nitrate my mind on any one idea for even *short time. Me legs became very feeble, and tottered in walking. I also hadgreat difficulty in retaining, my urine. In this enfeebled condition, my friends advised me to consult the family physician, who sore obtained mom me such information as satisfied him of the cause of my com plaints. He impressed on me the necessity of relinquish ing the habit, pointing out the moral and physical ruin sure to follow its indulgence, but could not cure me of its effects which I suffered. The symptoms, nocturnal discharges, inability to retail mine, a flow of !emetic on the least exertion, continued to grow upon me every day. At this time the family ph , sician, above alluded to, advised me-to consult you. After a careful perusal of your advertisement, I came to the conclusion that my case was one which, required your treatment, and I thank fortune I didso, , and cannot let the present oppor tunity pass without again adverting to the beneficial ef fects which your medicines and advice have bad upon me. Flow great must be the rewaniltere and.hereafter, of one who creates so runchhapoiness in the • world. I have no need of saying any mere. Enc osod' you' will . find a token of my . gratitude. I remain yours, ever grateful, J. JOHNSON. To Dr. Blanchard, No. 68 Smithfield street. You are at perfect liberty to make reference publicly tomy name. A. W .
