Good Newb.— -The ice in the Monongahelaand Ohio liyers broke up yesterday, and moyed off . towards the “sunny south.” There were 8 feet .. of water in the obannel.by the pier marks yes terday afternoon at 4 o'clock, and the river was - steadily rising. All the ferry boats were running yesterday as usual. The -Brownsville packets were advertised to start last evening, and the West Newton packets intend leaving this morning. It is believed that the Cincinnati packets will resume running on Wednesday or Thursday ai the farthest. We may now look for a resumption of business in a few dayß. Should the rivers keep open for the balance of the winter, there will be an iml menae amount of goods shipped from Pittsburgh for the South and West, before the first of April- Feoh the Missoubi. —The latest advices re ceived, announce the suspension of navigation in this important tributary. At Jefferson City, on Tuesday, the weather was intensely cold, and, was indicative of an eariy close. The Kansas, which left port on Saturday last, was caught by the ice at the month of the Osage, and was com pelled to lay "up. - The Weatheb asd Navioatiom.—The wea ther daring last night was intensely cold, and the river, was filled with floating ice. There was no arrivals of boats from any quarter, and none ventured to depart The Pike No. 9, Which yesterday was taking passengers for Lon-, isville has laid up, and the ferry boats have suspended their trips for the season.' It isre ported that Ute river is gorged at Grand Tower, and we learn by the telegraph that the river was full of ice at Cairo on Tuesday morning. The Itirsois—-We learn that this river is closed from LaSalle to the month. The steamers Connecticut, Daniel Hillman, Hndson, and Mo vastar, have laid up at different paints from Peoria down. The Uppeb Mississippi. —The boats have all withdrawn from the trade, and since Monday no steamer has succeeded in reaching a point above Cap-au-Gris. The lost boat—the Monon gahela, which left here on Monday evening— had not been heard from when ear evening edi tion went to press.— St. Lotas Union , 18th. Close or Navigation. —Occasionally a sail is seen, on the bay, but it is very seldom. The Sam Ward, it is expected, wilPbe down to-day. The Pacific and Telegraph are liud up. The schooner Juniata Potter is expected to-day. She will be.the last craft from* Buffalo. —MHaaukU Advertiser, December 12(A. The Weatheb.—Yesterday the weather was mild and delightful. Our compositors were working at their stands with their windows raised, so as to breathe the pure air of heaven The, sky was perfectly clear, and above head a loveliness smiled around. Bat ob, such streets (—their like was never seen before ! Mud, mud, nothing but mud! Of course the street comissioners cannot remove all the mud which id produced by a sudden change of weath er; but they can~ at least order their subordi nates to take a' hose and clean the crossings, so as to; prevent pedestrians from being swamped. Job PanmHa.—We do not suppose that it is improper for ns to observe, that the office of tho Morning 9 Post is the only newspaper establish ment in Pittsburgh, that has a completed Job Omen attached to it, and that is prepared to do every description of Job Work with which it may be favored, in a style unsurpassed, and at the very lowest prices that will pay. Oar Job Room has been replenished with the most complete assortment ef Type, both large and small, of any office in the city, and we feel confident that we con give full satisfaction to all who will favor ns with their patronage in this line. We would suggest to all persons managing public exhibitions, that it is of great importance , to their success, to have their Jobs printed in onr office, where they can have the advantage of a dailg notice, free of charge, in the columns of a daily paper. The office of the Morning Poet is the only one in Pittsburgh that can make this promise truthfully, as it is the only newspaper office competent to do Job Work of every descrip tion, in any style that may be required. We hope this will be borne in mind by all managers of public entertainments, who desire fall houses. The ItasTEEts. —Have you been to hear KunkeVs Ethiopian Opera Troupe ? We need not ask yon, for of course yon have. Masonic Hall has been crowded every night for a week; (and would be for a month longer). Peopie don’t go only once, but keep on going, to hear the exqui site .mostO; sweet singing, superb dancing, and mirth-provoking, side-aching, and blues-dispell ing sayings of this unrivalled band of darkies; and in particular, Hany Lehr, the “only original Brudder Bones” and prince of all bone players; and Master Floyd, in his celebrated and amusing dance “Louisiana Belle.” They have been prevailed, on to remain for a few nights longer, and we wonld advise all who wish to see them v to go early, as hundreds, are turned from thedoor nightly, unable to gain admittance. _ Thb*tbb.—ln consideration of the great suc cess of the Bull lighters, and tho attractive Pantomime, they will both be repeated this evening. It is so announced by Cur friend Man ager Foster. The announcement convinoes us that the Bulls, although the most amiable and delicate of their species, are able to drew a big house, and we have not the slightest doubt but that they will do their best to please all who desire to witness the performance of the Bulls at a respectful distance, as they might be taken on a horn. This is the last week of Ottinger’s Mirror of California. Do not forget it, and if you have not seen this beautiful work of art, go to-night. We learn that Mr. Ottinger will shortly visit Europe with it, and.we have no doubt thatit will be well patronized; wherever the fine arts are appreciated. The bad weather has probably deterred many from witnessing it before this. If so, we wonld say. to them—Delay no longer; visit it at once, and you will never regret it. 'TheCmc'ranati, one of the finest boats la the line, resumes her regular trips'' as a packet to-morrow, Wednesday, that being her day. It is needless to say: any thing in reference to the accommodations, &c.. of this boat, as she ia too well-known to need recommendation., Of course she will be crowded with passengers, as this is the .first trip sinoe the closing of the river. • L The Counoilß lost night, passed & reso j lutiou appointing' Robert McKnigiit, Esq.,- to A represent "the Btock of the oity of Pittsburgh/ in the Ohio 'and Pennsylvania Railroad, at the ■ -■ coining eieotion for officers of-that company, instructed him to vote for threc citizens of Pitta- ' l burgh for Directors of said Company.■ - Tbustee ottreGas Wobes,—ln the Coun cils last night, Dr. RobbbtHazlett, of the Fifth Ward, was elected a Trustee of the Gas Worts, o n the part of-the city, in the place of Biohard Saveiy, resigned. - e Thiee Ward. —The Democratic citizens of the -Third Ward, will meet at Bplane’a building on Wednesday evening, the 31st inst.at 6} o’alook P.
