Wherever she has appeared in Europe, Abe - liast.akerr the people by storm. As she may petieibly -bib' Pittsburgh during her American tour 'it may be interestbig to some folks to know *baths said of her abroad. -A Boulogne paper thuswpeaks of her first appearance which was in 6, that city:: "Never- since the first foundation of our thea tre, has the &die de Monsigny seen such a rush and a crowd as on the three nights of the debut of Loh Monteei." • Fromlinthogne she went to Brussels, where she met with the same success. From-Brussels she Went to Antwerp, where she arrived The day of the elections. Of her appearance there the correspondent of the. Herald says: - In the evening Lola danced, and the theatre Was jiiinixind to the peiling. The' ftrst appear ance of Lola was greeted by rounds of Applause from* the liberals and hisses from the royalista— Discussions followed, and the liberals, finally l o sing patience, set busily to work' and turned every royalist out of the theatre. - Lola wasthen ..oalle4 for, ind on her appearance, received a - • three times three of "Niue. She then :danced, was encored; recalled, and re-ap plantain their - heart's content; after which she - was Anima to retit**.heiCarriage followed and ' a - arrant:del by-the cheerbgpopnlnce to the very • tkers "Other - hotel. - From:Antwerp she went to Aix-la-Chapelle herti - th'' the _government was obliged to turn out a Squadron of, dragoons to disperse the disappoint - - ; - 'ed'erowd-who could not obtain admittance to the ihea•tre: The students, however, waited quietly her coming out, and escorted her in triumph.to her lodgings. She was preparing to leave Aix-la-Chapelle, to visit Cologne, Coblentz, Dusseldorf, Mayence, .Frankfort and' other places, where she had been announced when_h a dispatch came to her from the Irmister" of the interior of the Prussian Gov ernment, announcing that she would not be permitted any longer to dance in Germany. The reason given for this order was the tumultu ous excitement that her presence every where taxcited among the people. A letter from one of the liberalists, (who is said to occupy a high.position in Prussia,) to a friend in Paris, thus alludes to this order : • "The opinion of the people is so decidedly op posed to the;present policy of the government, that it reaembles a volcano, ready to burst ; and itis the fear of an ebullition of a theatrical audi ence `me . — lsing the crust of the volcano , that in duces thef:;hlithorities at Berlin to interfere to preterit Lola Mentes' dancing in Germany." °flier dancing a critic thus discourses : " "One may have seen the dancing of Taglhni, Carlotta Grisi, Fanny Elasler, and Cerito, and not know the dancing of Lola Mantes. It is -:.-somethink bizarre and unforseen, that has no -=analogy; inany.otherchorograpby, in any other ballets- With the Countess of Landsfeldt the deeming is not an art ; it is a phantasy, it is a passion ;'it is the dream of her spring, and the c?price of her summer. She dances as the birds sing, without knowing why." Badman's. Fire Eseepes.—We have seen this Very ingenious and beautiful piece of mechan- - IBM, which is now on exhibition in our City ; and we regard it as one of the moat useful in . ti ven OW that we have lately seen. The model may be examined at No. 73, Market street, where we recommend our citizens to call,—espe daily those who are interested in Fire and In surance Companies. This machinery consists of a gallery, capable of containing from twenty to fifty men;according to the size of the machine ; which is raised to a height of from twenty to one hundred feet, and is then reached by flights of steps that are raised with the gallery by means of an endless screw. From the gallery there iB a sliding floorway, designed to be ran • into an upper door or window, thus rendering access to, any portion of the upper part of a building easy, and the means of escape, and re moval 'of goods, certain. We learn from the proprietor that a machine 13 feet long and 7 wide—which is the largest size that has been though necessary,—would weigh about 1000 pounds; may be worked by from two to six men • and would cost front '54.00 to $l2OO, ac cording to the style of finish- This machine might also be advantageously used as a portable observatory. . gar All the papers in town, ourselves among tlusnumber,,with the aid of the Neptune Hose Heel-have been endeavoring to kill off an excel lent young man of the name of Manning, who received an injury at a late fire. We are happy to state that lie won't stay killed, and is fast recovering from'his injuries. While we express our pleasure to hear.that the accident to Manning has not terminated as fatally as at first announced, we cannot but con demo the not only foolish recklessness, but dan gerous spirit of emulation among our firemen. %list they are worthy of all praise for their efforts to save property from destruction, all men will admit; but that in their laudable exer tions they are sometimes regardless of life and limb, is a fact too apparent to be denied. We hope that they will moderate their ardor to such an extent as will not endanger the lives of those who run with the "mersheen," and by doing so they will render just as essential service to the community as they could if they broke a dozen Thealre.—To-night Wise Davenport appears in her new play of Valeria, or the Roman Sisters. In the Eastern cities she has added to her fame, by the excellence of her impersonations of the Empress and the Greek—the two characters which she plays in this piece. All her admirers will be pleased at its announcement, and will improve the present opportunity of seeing her in it, as it is not probable that after the present engagement she will ever again appear in Pitts burgh,—as her time previous to leaving the country, is fully occupied. , - Festival for the Pittsburgh Infirmary.—A num ber of benevolent ladies, with characteristic sympathy for the unfortunate, have undertaken to give a festival for the funds of this institution. We are requested to mention that it will be held = towards the close of theyear, and also, that any contributions of useful and ornamental work, or of provisions for the table, which may be made ..by the benevolent, will be most thankfully re .
