AP Vox, Secretary. ea- Two young and valiant Knights, about the witching hour, on Saturday night, not hav ing the fear of the Watchmen before their eyes, retired, from the midst of a social party, to the wharf, for the purpose of whipping an explana tion out of each other. After a parley, it was plain that they could come to :now understand ing this side of a knock-down; so at it they went =it was very quiet. They struggled with each other for some time, when one of them,— feeliiae-..that his honor was appeased and his vengeance satiated,—spoke out in as audible a tone as the circumstances wanld permit, " enough;" and on rising to his feet, he remark ed, with that suavity of manner peculiar to himself, that it was " exceedingly refreshing," only the wharf was very rough. He retired to his room, to dream and fight his battle o'er again •, the other to a Leecher's shop, only to make the enquiry, that if he had struck his an tagonist in the eye, would an application of leeches have taken the black out of it ; where upon, receiving a practical answer, he also re tired. Liverpool Ware.—We are pleased to learn that this excellent ware, manufactured by Woodward, Blakely & Co., East Liverpool, Ohio, and Pitts burgh, Pa., took a first class diploma at the late Fair in Allegheny City. Throughout the day, the table on which the beautiful articles were exhibited was surrounded by admiring crowds, who examined them attentively. These gentlemen also received a first premium for a patent churn, constructed of Liverpool ware. This is a great improvement, as it is easily cleaned. and. does not sour the milk. reir A young gentleman and lady who were walking together along Bank Lane, Allegheny city, on Thursday evening, were, by three ruffi ans, most outrageously assaul'ed. The neigh borhood is much excited at the frequency and boldness of such villainous assaults, and many of the most quiet arn4peaceable are alarmin g themselves for protection. Stoves.—At the Fair on Thursday, r. A. Bradley, on Wood street, near First, exhibited two, beautiful folding door parlor stoves. They attracted a great many spectators, who pro nounced them exceedingly beautiful and neat. These stoves have already become the most pop ular and fashionable now in use. Bobber WI Thursday last arrested a notorious thief• named Henry T. Haggerty, alias Higgins, on a charge of robbing the tailor shop of Henry Lorimer, of Lawrenceville of about $lOO worth of clothing. There was found, on his person, pieces of cloth which were identified, and about $175 sewed up in his clothing. Va.. A laborer on the Central Rail Bond nam ed John Malamarah was seriously injured on Saturday morning, by the falling in of a bank near the water depot, in the Ninth ward. He will recover, with the lose of one arm. fty" The front axle-tree of a two horse livery stable carriage snapped off yesterday morning on Liberty street, putting the driver to a deal of trouble and delay. air The cases_ before the Mayor yesterday morning were disposed of as usual—there being no more than the.ordinary ones. t er The iron railing manufactured by Coch ran, Mcßride & Co. took the first premium at the Fair. Dar The River still remains low without now any immediate prospet of arise. DB. Received this day, by Express, a supe rior lot of HALIBOT, SEA BASS, BOCK FISH, LIVE TERRAPINS; also a fine lot of DUCK .CREEK OYSTERS, at "017.1 t HOUSE," No. 24 .DMAIQND'AIIey. Manners and ensitoaas Abroad: The letters of Mr. Dawson, of the Albany Evening Journal, while traveling through Eng land, France, &0., are fresh and racy, and by no means so barren of useful information as most of the foreign correspondence of American c L empapers„liere_ is an extract from his last Paris letter : I have seen ladies roughly jostled from the sidewalks on the Boulevardes—where, if any where, yon might look for politeness—and in crossing from Dover to Ostend, and from Bou logne to Folkestone, I. have seen Frenchmen streashed out at full length upon sofas, while ladies could not find place to sit down. But I never saw a Frenchman discommode himself to oblige a lady. All this may seem apocryphal. And, so I would have deemed it but for the evi dence-of my own senses. Americans may be ignorant of many of the higher branches - of po liteneiui ; but if one of the "Universal Nation" should treat women as cavalierly as Frenchmen treatthem, there is not a backwoodsman east of the Rocky Motuitains who would not volunteer to pitch him into the Mississippi. "Nor is this inattention produced by any want of appreciation on the part of the ladies. I never saw gratitude more graceftilly expressed than when a venerable Philadelphian, with gen uine Yankee promptness, extricated a lady, with a pretty little frimposibility, from a crowd at a railroad station. When he had procured a cab for her, he held her little one until she was seat ed. She thanked him in - French—not a word of irhich, however, he - would have understood,. but for her eyes. They were perfectly . intelligible. In reply to her thanks, the ldndhearted old gen tle Man said, 'lt's all 'right, my Ott 'Una just what any gentleman would have _done.' Align as? inquired the little French-woman.
