The Fair. —Yesterdzky was the second day of the Agricultural and Mechanie,sl Fair, held in Allegheny ,city, .and . there was truly evonder ful variety -of articles on Exhibition. Indeed we know •of no branch of manufacturing that was not thera represented. We scarcely know where , to begin to enumerate the: kinds of aid cles--there was all kinds of agricultural: impli matte ; carriages and buggies innumerable ; all kinds of the most beautiful castings ; harness, leather, hats, -boots, hosiery, clothes, cloths, guilts, chairs, looking glass frames, flowers and fruit, • There was also novel exhibition of twin babes, about four months old. They were lying in a basket wagon, and were beautiful lit tle cherubs. We couldn't learn to whom they belongedi z -but_they- appeftl to attract more atteittion,-,-frout-theladies especia' 11Y-,-tban any other article.— -They - will :ertainly :tati-'a pre rE.43334„or should ._. We saw none on the ground diaCcotild`Comtieteviti them. • The space allotted to the exhibition was en tirely too small. Never did we see such a com plete jam. About 3 o'clock Hon. Judge Lowrie delivered a very able and eloquent address, which was listened to by that large audience with marked attention. Ite„ The Naiad Qneen was produced at the Theatre last-night for the first time. It far ex ceeded, in brilliant splendor, the expectations of the public, high as they had been raised. It is indeed a magnificent effort, and will draw crowded houses for many nights. It will be be presented again this evening. Seats must be secured early in the day. Ugh !—The Indiana who are here giving ex hibitions, were yesterday promenading the !treats in costume. A man fell from the scaffolding of the . new house adjoining the Railroad Depot, in Al legheny city, yesterday, and was slightly injured. lam- The proceeds of the Fair yesterday were much larger than heretofore. The amount we couldn't ascertain. fgr The boots exhibited at the Fair yester day, by U. Brennan, of Smithfield street, were the handsomest we have ever seen gr. A_ great many strangers were in the city yesterday, to witness the Masonio procession. M., Dr. Kelly commences a course of lectures next week, on Mesmerism. M. There was no-Court commitment to jail yesterday. The new Judge of the S. Supreme Court.— The following anecdote is told of Judge Story and his Successor upon the lienoh It was,Judge Story's habit after the session of the Court op his return to Cambridge, and be fore the publication of the reports, to _submit the case decided to the class for argument.. On one occasion Judge Marshall had delivered the opinion of the Court, Judge Story dissenting.— When the points were before the class, Mr. Cur tis took the same positions assumed by Judge Story on-the Bench, anti that eminent man on his return to Washington, said to Judge Mar shall that if the casead been argued with half , the ability before the Court that it was before theilass.the decision would have been reversed. "AiAn:added the Judge, "B. B. ,Ctirtiti,_ the young man not yet admitted to praitice, who made that argument, will yet stand at the head of the New England Bar." 'TWA prediothin has been verified, and the student occupies the seat his distinguished in structor so, well filled. TEs Crssmuts AT A THEATRE. —A Sacramento paper mentions the appearance of five-and-twen ty Chinamen at the Pacific Theatre, in that city a short time ago :--They had - never seen any thing like it, in the Flowery Kingdom, that was evident, and their enjoyment was proportioned to the novelty of the exhibition. There was only one difficulty in the way: and that was, that they did not seem to knoW when it was the ,proper time to go. Every time the curtain fell they thought the show was at an end, and began to move towards the door. They had once reach ed it, when they were brought back by the band which struck up a lively air. They behaved in the meantime with great gravity and decorum, tmtil liancing began. Then they seemedio have lost their presence of mind altogether, and went into absolute ecstacies, clapping and applauding with the greatest enthusiasm. They apparently tho't it would be carrying self-indulgence too far to attend any longer, and so they took their leave incontinently, boWing gracefully to the crowd around the door as they withdrew. apt„, Received. this day, by _Express, a supe rior lot of HALIBOT, SEA. Below we give the state of the market East: The Buffalo Wool Grower says:—The severe press ure upon the money market the past month haa.been sensibly felt by the Wool dealers, and many who are weak holders have suffered seriously. Wool was offer ed in New York at a loss of 10 ets f? lb, and found no purchasers at that. The sales however, have been only to a limited extent, and have very much favored the buyer. If forced upon the market now,-Wool would not bring last February prices, by at least 3 eta, upon the average. The tendency of prices is downward, and we look for a further decline. We do not see any prospect for a rally before winter, and not then tiniest; there be a very great change in money matters.. Our exc. rorive importations are beginning to tell upon the finances of the country, and until they.are checked Mere will be an increased demand for money, which will of course make it scarce and dearer. In other words, the price of all kinds of property must fall. Wool and fabric must partake of the general law, and depreciate. There will be no accumulation of stock in either kind, for the de mand of the country will consume theomanufaetured article, and thus create a good demand for the raw ma terial, and that too at fair prices- We are quite content the speculators should suffer They have made money oat of the farmer and manufacturer, and we are glad to see the farmers get it back, in some degree as they have done this year. At Providence (R. I ) the Wool market is very dull, and but little inquiry inquiry for any description The stock of polled is small, hardly any but iamb's iit mar ket. Prices nominal. • POST Sr . TowsseND, New Brighton, Pa., Pittsburgh. EL. TOWNSEND & 00., WIRE MANUFACTURERS, No. 19 MARKET STREET, PITTSBURGH, PA ocl3.dk.w2w Abdominal supp _ ON A NEW AND IMPROVED PLAN. For sale by Dr. I. W. 13 RAYSTUP, No. 85 Smithfield street, Pittsburgh, A S persons of both sexes call on me daily, complain tog of Costiveness, Pain in the Stomach, Dowels, &c., (but, generally, by examination, 1 have found In a great many cases, that they have labored under the dis ,ressing disease, the Falling of the Dowels), I have fit ted some of them with a proper supporter, and a small (pommy of medicine, which have relieved. their pain and given them comfort, and some of them ha will call atd not been well for five or six years. Any person who ray office, I can refer them to those who wear them, who can testify to the benefits of them. If we have no Sup porters that will fit, we can have them made in 4...sbort Lime. The effect prodneed by wearing a suitable and perfectly adjusted Abdominal Supporter is often nearly miraculous. The weak votes Is strengthened—the weak lungs supported—the heart ceases its. palpitations—the food sits better on the stomach—costiveness is relieved chronic diarthma is stopped—miscarriages prevented— doodings stopped—whites cured—spine gets stronger— the lady who is unable to walk is soon able to walk welL She who could not sit up alone for a few minutes, can now sit up all day, or as long As any one; falling of the womb is cured, and, in shorter or longer periods loses all its tenderness and weakness, and goes permanently hack io its place. Barrenness, in some cases, gives place to frailfainess, and a way is preparedfor yearepf good health. isep22:3m3iaw.
