IThe Empire City,'from Chagres, arrived this morning;- : She brings 300 passengers, and iBl,- 400,000 in-gold dust bn freight and $300,000 in the liands ofpassengers. The city of San Francisco was visited by an other destructive fire on ;;the 22d of June. /The office of th e Alta was blown,up with a view of arresting the progress of the flames, but Without avail. Everything is burned from Pa cific to Washington street east, excepting two or three buildings near- the corner of Jackson at. From Washington street .the fire crossed over the rear of the Eldorado,House and the new Thea tre, which last was destroyed;- The flames spread thence to Merchant street, crossed to Clay street on the north side, below the California Ex change, and extended to the brick building on the north side , ocoupied:.by .RaUeant &.Wilde, at the corner of Montgomery street. During the progress of tho fire immense quan tities of goods were removed to the Plaza, where theyultimatcly took fire and were destroyed. Snow, a worthy oitizen, was recently murdered at Sonora, and two days afterwards two assassins had been taken by the populooe,- and will no doubt he executed. ; y ... A row had occurred among the miners near Carson’s diggings, in which two Americans and three or four Mexicans Were killed., A party of nine men, under Capt. Fitzpat rick, had been cut off ul Road river, and all murdered. ' The Democratic State Convention m'ethere to day, and organized by appointing Wm. Dwyer, of Auglaize county, Chairman, and Chas. L. Weller, of Bntler county, Secretary, and Wm. Myers, of Hamilton, Assistant. The attendance was very full. ' On motion of B. F. Metcalf, of Putnam Co., a committee of 21 was appointed to select per manent officers, and report , the same for the government of the Convention. ' Ou motion of J. W. Wilson, of Senaca, a com mittee of 21 was apointed by the several con gressional delegations, to report resolutions for the consideration of the Convention. On motion of D. K. Carter, of Stark county, -the Convention took a recess till 2 o’clock. AFTERNOON SESSION. . Convention met pursuant to recess, when Mr. Ankeny, from the Committee, reported the names of E, B. Olds as President, Jno. H. Garrard,; of Hamilton, and 20 others as Tice Presidents; and Chas. L. Miller'and five others as Secreta ries. The report was. unanimously adopted.— The same committee reported rules for the gov ernment of the Convention, wMch were adopted. Tho.mles require a majority over all the reat to, nominate. ■ Gen. Leid, from the committee, of credentials, reported the names of the delegates which had been accepted. ~_Tfae reading-or it was dispens ed with. ' Every county in the State except Stark was represented. ' Beuben Wood, of Cuyahoga, was then, nomi nated as jhe candidate for Governor by acclama tion, amid the most enthusiastic cheers. On motion of ffm. Fitch, of Cuyahoga, a committee, consisting of Judge Chancey, John son and Blaokbum, was appointed to wait on Gov. Wood, to inform him of his nomination; and request his attendance. On motion, jhe convention proceeded to nom inate a candidate for Lient. Governor, The names of Col. lVm. Mcdill, of fairfiold, and C. L. Valiandigham, of Montgomery, were presented as Candidas. At this moment the committee arrayed with Gov.
