The furnace being prepared, tnc Safe wu* placed inside thereof,with books, papers and some money; when the door of the Safe was closed and the fire kindled at u quarter posts o’clock, and in a short note the Safe was red kot,andcontinucdtill hutfpaslC o’clock,being about four and a half hours, 1 when-the committee expressed their satisfaction that:tho time occupied with such heat was sufficient. The.furnaco was then pulled down,Safe cooled, uml door opened—the books, papors and money safe. The heat was so groat as to melt off the brass mountings.
