' . , JOHN . MURDOCH, Ch'n. JAs. Prntijord and Temant.—We have heard a pret ty good. story related of a landlord and tenant in this city, which occurred lately. The landlord in question is an _elderly 'gentleman, Who is proverbial for bis disposition to have a tlitEcul ty with every person to whom he may rent his property. • One of his - tenants, - a limb of the law, was not celebrated for his punctuality in paying Ids rent'at the end of each quarter. Mel lon, Cor.-See'y. -.- On motion'adjourned to meet at Wilkins Hall on Saturday eviming, August 2, 1851. ger Doctor Henry D. Olteilly, the distin guished Irish orator, wit and humorist, is about to amuse our citizens with one or more of his Irish evenings, and lectures on illustrious Irish men, in Philo Hall, commencing on Wednesday next. We have long been acquainted with this young gentleman;- through the medium of the press, and he hats Universally been spoken of in the highest terms. Ilia evenings have been at tended with crowded houses in New York, Bal timore, Philadelphia, &c., and we feel confident from our personal acquaintance with him, that he will not falsify the reputation he brings with him. There is no character which presents so varied and startling changes as the Irish. In sunshine, in sorrow, in grave and in gay, they prove themselves a puzzle to the world; and there can be no richer treat presented to us than to follow them through every phase of life, as they will be shown to us by this brilliant lectur er. The lovers of humor and of.soul-stirring wit will have a rare treat. • • i Suieide.—The citizens of •the Third Ward of Allegheny city, were startled on Saturday will, the intelligence that a man named Frank Hart man had committed suicide. • We were unable to learn the cause which led bin' to commit this deliberate and unnatural deed. About a week since, he was frustrated in an attempt to hang himself, and.has since been closely watched by his friends. Their watchfulness, however, avail ed not ; as on last Saturday morning he deliber ately placed himself la a Osition over a vessel to catch the blood,.and with a shoe-knife ineach hand, cut -his throat, nearly severing the head from the body: Coroner Arthnrs held an in• quest, and the Jury retuned : a verdict in accor dance with the above Sada. • Hail st.rm,—oa - Saturday evening, about 9 o'clock, we Were visited with a very severe hail storm and it tremendous . -shower of , rain, Inter spersed-with heavy thunder and sharp lightning. Some of the hail- stones measured seven inches in circumference, and windows innumerable were broken by it.. Daring the day the heat had been unite oppressive, and such a storm was altogether 'unlooked for. No injury, other than having the spout torn off, wait done to the house. The clouds blared with lightning, and the representation had more the appearance *a grand and beautiful, display of fire works than ;any thing else. - , inceudia?ina.—On Saturday morning between 1 and 2 o'clock, a fire broke out in the exteasivo lumberyard of Measrs. W. anis, f Storre--Of late years there hive been many itnproyements in Stoves conducive to comfort, convenience and • good taste; but the last and . best .we have seen is Juno'ff Patent' Sliding. Door Store. For a parlor,' sitting room or steamboat stove, it has no equal. First, we bad the falling door; i next the johting door—both tasty, teat and convenient; but the sliding.door exceeds them in every particular, combining all the util ity of an open fire, with the beauty and advan tage of a close stove. Its arrangements are ad mirable. The doors, when open, are concealed in the.stove, which you may draw oat vhca-yon wish to close them, with the greateit ease, and thus graduate the draft topleaseyourself, which is one very great advantage over the other stoves, the doors of which must either be closed or open.
